Well, I was born in 1996. I could be either Millennial or Gen-Z depending on who you ask. I remember some of the late 90s (Barney, Arthur, Teletubbies, etc.), but more of the 2000s. I guess I have more in common with Gen Z that way? But that was what I grew up with— heelies, Silly Bandz, Disney Channel, SpongeBob, Madeline, Harry Potter, Ugg Boots, skinny jeans, chunky highlights, etc.
I used to HATE the flat, straight hair trend. My hair is very thick and wavy, but I sometimes straightened it. It never felt right to me. People would also ask why I didn’t wear makeup (this was middle school, mind you) so I started doing that too. I also got my brows waxed (very painful!). My nails were also considered too long.
At some point, I stopped caring and kept my natural brows and nails. It’s funny because a few years ago, thick brows and long nails became the trend….
Not as many good animated movies as there used to be. I remember seeing Finding Nemo in the theater and being blown away! It’s my favorite Pixar movie.
Also, the big chunky TVs in school…the ones on wheels! YES! I also loved those flat scooter things in gym class and OF COURSE the parachute.
Old-school PowerPoints with the clip art and transitions were fun. I used to make random ones at home just for fun lol.
I miss shows like Oprah and Ellen, even Wendy Williams. They were more informative than whatever is on now.
I also feel like there were more rom-coms and general comedies. Whatever. Maybe one day, we’ll remember we need to laugh.
