"Original" villagers...

I replace the duckie design with terrible designs of my own.
I need someone creative to come to my towns and display their beautiful clothes for my villagers to wear. lol

My villagers' houses are a mess mostly bc I'm doing a lot of cataloging. So I buy everything I see. Then I put it up for sale in re-tail and make them buy it. Or if they ask for something, I give them something I have lying on the ground. Once I'm satisfied with my level of cataloging, then I'll start to rebuild their houses into nice things.

See ive become obsessed with keeping my food townies rooms the same
Tangy/Frita/Marshal/Tia who live in my town atm and are dreamies all have original houses
Stitches also still has his original house
but the others i give items to, and i do to the ones in Azalea aswell
i just want my food dreamies pure
Tia has been ruined by 1 item.. her tea set got replaced on the table D: so im going to try and give her the tea set back if she asks for furniture

I find it as the most stupidest ridiculous petty thing ever. I ignore messages on tumblr from people asking if they're original. So what if a villagers house is different? They'll begin to ask you for junk for their house too so why does it matter? Just rebuild it the way you want.

This x1000. I mean, I sort of understand it if that villager has like rare unorderable furniture that you want them to have or want to take from them, but I still think people get way worked up about it. Also it's SO easy to change their shirts and catchphrases I don't understand??????? I've had all my villagers that I currently have for quite a while, so everyone's house is a bit crazy. But really it isn't even that hard to send them things to make their house look nice?

I don't get the whole fuss either to be honest, because if you want the character original, you might as well place your bets on hoping that you'll randomly get that villager. I mean, if you've had a villager for a while, there's a chance that their furniture will change around. That's just how the game works; they want their furniture replaced, you replace it, job done. If it's a big deal though, all you have to do is simply look up what furniture they originally had, buy that furniture and then if they ask to replace furniture give them the furniture they had in the first place. As for the catchphrase, change the catchphrase to whatever it originally was. As for the clothes, change the clothes to what they originally were. See where i'm getting at here?

Or maybe it's an OCD thing, I don't know to be honest.

I prefer them original. Lots of hostility in here lol o: Anyway, I like to see what their houses ORIGINALLY looked like, and with some villagers, I refuse to have them in any clothing but the one they're supposed to be in (Ankha, Kid Cat, Julian). But, sadly, anyone who gets a villager from me will probably have a gutted house because for some reason they all unload their furniture into Retail for no reason. Julian. And my poor Pierce has an awful balloon table and chair and... I was silly, I should give him some other stuff.

Anyway, unless the house is like super special like Julian's I don't mind if it changes. But that goddamn unicorn is getting his furniture back whether he wants it or not.

Unless their shirts are like O'Hare's which you can only get from the island. There's no 100% sure way of getting him to wear it either after spending medals on it, so blegh. Even then, my O'Hare is wearing an awesome custom design now, so I'm pretty happy.

And apparently Isabelle doesn't actually change them back to original clothes. She just makes them wear those plain white clothes and such. So the clothes thing is easier said than done. Believe me, I tried (refer to my Pashmina duckie shirt story a while back).

Haha, I know that bit with Ankha's clothing. xD I had Ankha move in and she immediately changed out of her clothes into one that matches her skintone, so she looked naked most of the time. I wanted to put her back to her original clothes because they fit her theme the best, but I didn't have it catalogued, so she was stuck looking naked for a while.

And when Mira changed out of her red zap shirt, it was really weird. I really liked her in it. I don't have it catalogued either so she's stuck looking like a half-dressed superhero until I get it. :C

Clothing is a pretty big deal depending on the villager. Others I really don't care what they wear as long as it's not the duckie shirt. Duckie shirt and sea bass. Evil things.

Well, if you send them 5 of the same shirt at once they will pretty much always put it on. You also have a better chance of getting them to put a shirt on if you wrap it in wrapping paper. If they have a birthday coming up they will 100% change immediately if you bring them a shirt. If you walk around trying to get villagers to ping you while holding the shirts you want them to wear, if they run up to you and want to buy a shirt, more often than not they will change into it.

Also, for people who just don't want them wearing ugly default Able patterns, just fill the store with umbrellas :|

Unless you don't actually have the original shirt. If their default shirts are Gracie's (Chops, for example) or island shirts, it's gonna be hard to collect 5 of them to spam them with. Or with my previous post, you don't have it catalogued so you can't buy it, etc etc.

And to save themselves the trouble of doing this, people prefer to get their villagers in original clothing, especially if they are paying for it. Like, people prefer to see Ankha in her mummy clothes (or whatever they're called) and that's fine. If they're paying for Ankha for like 40mil, I think it's perfectly alright for them to ask if Ankha is wearing her default clothes?? Not sure why people are being hostile about this? It's just a preference.

Like I said, I don't care as long as it's not a duckie shirt. But some people do, and I understand why, and that's neither stupid or negative or whatever. It's just okay. o 3o

You make good points. I guess I kind of forgot how much people actually pay for their villagers on here because I don't actually use the villager trade board on this site.it's too intense for me and my playing style >__>
I guess from the perspective of people who don't care about original houses is that it seems obsessive and like it would just be really frustrating? I know for me personally I'm going to end up messing it all up anyway so it's never bothered me. But I can see how it can be really frustrating trying to fix things, too.

I feel ya, sister. I'm actually glad I got most of my villagers without going crazy over at the villager trade board. I did get some good memories there, so there's that. <3

As for me, the only houses I really care about messing up are Tangy's and Mira's. Mira mostly because she's my town superhero/villain (depending) and I want her lair to be perfectly... lair-like. I did remove her stereo though, because I didn't like her music. Tangy has a fruit theme, and it's cute the way it is. But I sent her a cat tower, because she's a kitty. And I moved some of her furniture around. Yeah, it's pretty stressful restoring it. One time Mira exchanged her astro chair for a pine chair and I was like "WHY?? YOUR SUPERHERO BUNBUN CAVE CAN'T HAVE ANYTHING WOOD OMG" and I had to find someone to trade me an astro chair just so I could put it back.

Everyone else's house can be messed up, I don't care. xD I give them DLCs though, cuz I love them. And I don't give them sea bass. Never give them sea bass. Don't claim to love a villager and give them sea bass. Sea bass corrupts. Sea bass destroys. Sea bass is evil.

Did you know you can change a villager's music on their stereo by sending them a wrapped song!! I did it by accident once, assuming the villager would display the album, and now I do it on purpose whenever I really don't like a song XD

Yeah, I only picked 3 of the villagers in my town...one was from my campsite, one was from my friend, and the other was for free from somebody on Tumblr. Everyone else is a random. I got pretty lucky with some of them, but I also have such loved villagers as Harry and Truffles (who I then ended up getting attached to and protective of anyway :|) I get why people pay a gazillion bells for villagers, and I guess why people get really into making or keeping their villagers a certain way, but it's definitely not for me.

That's good to know. I hate going into Curlos's house and hearing whatever awful song he keeps playing in there. It hurts my ears.

Anyway, I don't think anyone's being purposefully hostile. I think some of us just don't get it. Although, when you put it in perspective of people paying 40 mil for a villager, it helps me understand a bit more. I guess my thing is just that, even if you get a villager as an original, how long is it going to stay like that? Eventually things are going to change. Even with a villager like O'Hare. You may get him original, and the day after he moves in, he changes his shirt. It's just not something you can really prevent in the long run.

I personally don't care if the villager is original. <shrug> I got Tipper, the villager I've really wanted since December, and she's not original. I wasn't expecting her to be either, because she was in someone else's town for a while.

Some people on this forum are really anal though...

Pffft.

I don't really care if a villager doesn't have all their stuff.

Although I was really surprised to get Chrissy and her house was a lot more empty than I was used to. lol

No, actually, that's the thing. It's way easier to maintain them in their "original" states than restoring them from a duckie shirt and a room full of sea bass. Believe me. It's 1000x easier. I've had O'Hare as a random move in in my old town, and he has kept his original shirt until I moved him out from that town due to reset. He was in that same shirt for 6 in-game months. In IRL time, that would be... well, 6 months. He only changed his clothes after he was in my friend's town for a while. And if you want your villagers' furniture to stay the same, just don't send them furniture, fill your Re-Tail with 999,999 priced stuff so they don't sell their stuff, etc etc. I know a friend who does this. She likes their furniture the way they are and so she takes precautions on keeping it the same. I've kept Diana's house original all this while, for example. I don't even try, she just stays like that. Which lends proof that villagers are easier to keep as is than restoring them from a house full of evil sea bass.

So yes, people who prefer them in their original states obviously know how to keep them that way and so prefer to receive them as such. Especially when they are building themed towns and adopted villagers with furniture for that matched that theme (food theme as an example).

It's actually pretty preventable depending on your play style--which is the play style of the people asking them to be original. If you're the type to give your beloved villagers all they ask--ugly furniture, sea bass, duckie shirts, then it's understandable that this type of thing is weird to you. But having such a preference doesn't make you stupid, so the same goes for these other people too.

OKAI WOW, I am changing Mira's song to something superhero-ish. 8D THANK YOU FOR THIS INFORMATION. I can't wait though--now I can send her her cute stereo back.

Yeah, I got lucky with most of my top tier villagers too. The only villager I legitimately bought is Marshal. Everyone else came from lots of resetting and pure luck and friendship. Tangy was a starter. <3 Also, Truffles is awesome, yes, protect the truffles. But don't send them sea bass, okai? Okai.

I'm in the middleground on this. I'd like to keep some villagers' furniture the same, but I don't care about others'. I care about certain villagers' clothes, but others not so much. So I get how both sides feel. xD

Personally, I am quite a perfectionist. I want everything original when a villager moves in. I hate messy houses. I got most of my villagers unoriginal though, but I still like villagers original when buying/trading. (:

I'm inbetween in regards to original and switching things around.
I do find it a bit silly people are nitpicky as heck, but they're most likely the ones that reset when recieving certain favors such as presents to another villager, or villager interactions. Ex:
Once I saw Carmen talking with Hans when they were in my town, and Carmen suddenly changed her outfit to the custom John's Vriska jacket I made. But Hans was wearing his original Gracie shirt.

I mean yes I want some villagers to display their distinct themes like Filbert's space centric theme, or the helmeted villagers like Big Top with their regular clothes.
But I kind of see some change as good depending on what the person does with their villagers. Like I have Rowan, an orange jock tiger, and I'd make him wear a kung fu shirt even though that's not his original attire, or Wolfgang with a black track jacket. /feeling like KN here for saying this.
Or Savannah's home with a few customized gray stripe furniture.
Also I agree that nobody likes to SEE bass everywhere..

Oh and I admit reverting everything in a villager's home is tricky, tried to gift bomb Carmen one time with her original stuff and she had them in different areas.

IDK how you avoid villagers from no custom designs though.
I've got Bruce with AA's symbol, Kyle with KK's, and Filbert with Ness' shirt and they're all running around like that atm. I don't mind much since it's not that awful..

I personally like them original, i dont know i just like things that look new and fresh even when they've stayed in my town forever I ALWAYS keep them as original AS POSSIBLE because it's how I. Like them to be and it's MY opinion others may disagree but hey as long as it makes someone happy right?
And trust me i'd rather an original villager over a messed up trashed one like some stupid phrase thats not approprite or a house filled with fish and bugs (man those are hard to get villagers to let go of.)

It's kinda like something you want let's just say for example an xbox, would you rather the new mint xbox or the trashed one BARELY making it through about to break with just crap drawn all over it and falling apart? (I know it's a long stretch comparing a villager to an xbox but its the best comparison i can give.)

So yeah while I like original villagers if someone were to let me have a villager I REALLY want i'd take it even if it wasn't original but being original is just something i would prefer.

Even if they weren't i can always sorta restore them being original with giving them their old phrase, clothes, and furniture

I prefer the houses of "special" villagers with a theme to stay as original as possible, thats why my villagers aren't allowed to sell in retail and they don't change their shirts to the duck ones because I turned all the shop shirts into umbrellas.
I want those houses to be as original as possible for them because they have a theme fitting for their character in their house, like Ankha, Octavian, Coco, Julian, Zucker, Ribbot, Pietro, Muffy, Cob, Bruce, ect.
But I have no problem fixing their houses myself when I get them via trade. Even if it takes a bit of time.
