I don't understand what the whole hype around "original" villagers is. (Like original shirt, furniture, etc.)
Surely if you want a villager that badly then you wouldn't mind?
I don't mean to offend anyone, I am purely just wondering.

Its not important to me in Azalea
but it is in Parfait since its a food town.. so id like their furniture to reflect the fact they are food.. such as Merengue, shes just not the same without all her food items, and her chef shirt

I don't normally mind, but sometimes you get to adopt a villager and their furniture is a wonky mess of all sea bass aquariums and mismatched Regal and Ranch furniture or 4 beds or something. Or that they're wearing that green duckie shirt or a Nicholas Cage face (which is hilarious but, um, just no). Or their catchphrase is a bad word.

I don't mind catchphrases mostly. But with clothes I'm pretty picky depending on the villager. I would've loved O'Hare to come in his original shirt, for example, since it's an island exclusive if I remember correctly. And some villagers like Marshal have rare furniture like the sloppy furniture which people would rather he keep (I don't mind, I have plans for his room, hehe).

All in all, I don't feel like it's a hype, it's more just a preference, I guess.

I prefer it when buying a new villager that they have their original clothes because I like to see what they look like! I wouldn't turn down a villager because of it though. Like when Eugene moved in he had his leather jacket which is a key part to his look but he still looks awesome without it :3

I dont really mind. Obviously I'd prefer it if the villager were still wearing their original clothes and their houses were intact. But if I happen to buy a villager thats wearing the duckie shirt and has a house full of seabass then I'd just mail them new clothes and furniture

I find it as the most stupidest ridiculous petty thing ever. I ignore messages on tumblr from people asking if they're original. So what if a villagers house is different? They'll begin to ask you for junk for their house too so why does it matter? Just rebuild it the way you want.

Tbh, I wouldn't ever buy a villager in a duckie shirt, but that's just me. I always get irritated when I see a villager running around in it, probably because its particular shade of green is the shade I hate the most. It reminds me of those old glitchy gifs. The first thing I did when I restarted my town was to get rid of that pattern. Pashmina had that shirt on for the longest and I cringed every time I saw it. xDD But yes, it's a preference.

I've got my fair share of villager adoptions with their stuff and clothes no longer original (or all gone)--and I was perfectly happy with them anyways. But all that sea bass had to go.

I kind of agree with this. And you can't help it most of the times when a villager changes clothes. It seems silly to me not to buy or take a villager bc they're in different clothes. They'll eventually change whether you get them original or not.

And as for the houses, if you're doing favors for your villagers (which you're supposed to do), it's very likely that their houses may be a bit of a mess. Eventually, you're going to do a favor for that villager you bought and they're going to have a sea bass in their house. Unless you plan on mistreating them just so they can stay original. :P

IF YOU REALLY LOVED YOUR VILLAGERS YOU WOULDN'T GIVE THEM SEA BASS (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ

Even if they ask for it! DON'T DO IT! SEA BASS IS EVIL EVIL EVIL!

No, but seriously. xD Whenever a villager asks me for an ocean fish, I catch them the cutest one I can find. ; w; i'm such a sappy mayor, not even sorry When I see a sea bass in a villager's house I just feel like they areN'T LOVED ENOUGH so I'm like 'nope, we're getting you a shark'.

Actually I plan to have all my villagers have one shark pet just because.

edit: Oops, sorry about hi-jacking the thread with sea bass. See? Sea bass is the root of all evil. I should start a religion. Anti-sea bass-ism... or something.

I can't stand the duckie shirt. It's not just the color, but the design itself. Something about it looks pixelly. But it's really not that hard to get villagers to change clothes. Basically, you buy them 5 shirts (they could all be the same) and then you mail it to them all at once. If you do that there is a 100% chance that they'll change into it.

That seems to be the most trendy requirement these days. No way in heck have my villagers kept their houses original. Even worse is I never get any of the good stuff from them nor see it in retail. Right now all of mine are on a ducks shirt kick. I've sent shirts but they just display in their house. If I did try for a villager what they had wouldn't matter to me.

I didn't know you could maIL STUFF TO THEM ALL AT ONCE. Can you really do that? Do they reply with the same number of letters? Do they furnish their house with the rest of the shirts? o____o i need to know

I honestly tried to get Pashmina out of those clothes. Sent her tons of clothes every day and she never once wore any of them. Even picked out ones that were her "style". She persisted to walk around in it everyday and almost got Julian to wear it (I resetted when I saw it happen). So now I have a complete aversion to duckie shirts. I probably still won't buy a duckie shirted villager just because, even with this information. Other clothes are fine. But duckie shirts? Nope.

Seriously. The only time I can accept the whole original thing is if a villager has rare furniture. Like Diana and that whirlpool bath and her mermaid stuff. But even then, it's not like you can never get them again. Heck, when I give a villager away, sometimes they have rare DLC in their house. A beau I gave away I had given an eggplant cos and cucumber horse to. Not sure if he displayed it but I gave it to him

Oh, no, I understand the wonder. It's a matter of aesthetics for me when it comes to the furniture; the clothes and catchphrase don't bother me. I love how their house looks, and would rather not go through the trouble of restoring it. However, the only reason this would figure into my interest is that I know it wouldn't be the only opportunity to get that villager, and there's no rush. If it was, say for example if Marshal came up and I actually had a chance to get him, of course I'd overlook the furniture. Also, it's true that villagers go out of their way to redesign their house, though some more than others. It seems inevitable that their houses would completely alter, but I've actually, e.g., maintained my original villager Gayle's house, except with lovely phone instead of the dresser.

ALLCAPS then get rid of the Duck design from your Able's and they'll never wear it again

I've honestly never tried that method. Usually I send them one shirt and they change into it right away. If not I get it within the second or third try. But I've seen several guides that say to do that. My guess is that they might use some of them to furnish their house, but idk if they'd put all of them up? You might want to ask someone who has actually tried it. Because yeah, I haven't actually done it myself xD

As long as you marvel in interior and clothing design unoriginal villagers are okay.

However when you enter a villager's house and are confused, because there are no in-game bomb features, then unoriginal villagers are never okay.

My Fauna has been through three towns, her house has only two pieces of original furniture and there is no reassuring theme to her home. But she's adorable. So I don't give a dayum about her home.

I did say I did that when I restarted my town. xD It was the first thing I did. Now I don't have any duckie shirted villagers. >83 And I never will.

Yus, I'll do that! Thanks for letting me know this though! Really good info. 8D
