I hope you don't mind putting it spoilers, since it's still pretty recent ;;
and wow you made me want to continue reading it again! It's nice for once to hear thoughts about the ending that isn't about the ship haha. I honestly was a bit disappointed that Sakura ended up with Sasuke cause I think she deserve more than than him. I was pretty heartbroken when I saw how Sakura reacted to Sasuke leaving (which made me dislike him orz)but what you said made me realize that Sakura always liked Sasuke from the beginning so it was good that she ended up with him. I was pretty neutral about Sakura but I like her improvement after Shippuden. It'd be better if she was Hokage though heh.
Also, I stopped reading back when Sasuke faced Itachi after his betrayal so my thoughts might not be accurate, sorry if I made any mistake ;; Now that it's completed, I have no reason to hold it off!

Yeah, maybe when I have free time from college I'll sit down and the the whole series, I stopped at the fight between Sasuke and Itachi. I know so much only because I keep up with the fan base and I didn't much care for spoilers. A lot of people don't like them together and think she would be better off with someone else but if you truly love someone you won't stop loving them for making mistakes and getting made. Sasuke made a lot of stupid mistakes but not very many people try to see him as anything more than a jerk. But this guy lost his family, to his brother, who encouraged him to find him and kill him, then he lost his brother. His whole life with his family was his father constantly bringing him down because he wasn't as good as Itachi, his only support was his mother and brother, who eventually destroyed his world. He made a lot of his decisions acting on anger and hatred because of everything that happened to him. Through it all he realized that the people he left behind were the ones that cared about him and because of that he knew he had done stupid things and even after all that Sakura still took him back.
For that I feel they are great together because you have to be able to forgive. I really wanted her to become hokage but the title of the series is Naruto after all, hopefully he doesn't do anything to rash in his time as such. But yeah, it's a really great series and what a lot of people who don't speak Japanese or understand their culture don't know is that they never just say something in their writing. The way the write these series are in a way that you have to sit down and interpret it. I have some knowledge of the culture and I have studied the language some and the way they do things and say things are very different. ^^
