Okay so I'm just going to spoiler my theory.
Okay, so in the flashback to Christmas, she punched Chapman, saying things roughly like "I don't want to do this mommy you can't make me". I assume that she probably did something to her mother that landed her in prison.

We saw her mother. Her parents visited in the episode Fucksgiving. So I don't think so.

Honestly, I thought whatever she did involved her mom at first, too. But it seems like she just kind of resents her mom for pushing her. Her parents meant well but had no idea how to go about helping and caring for her. They couldn't even manage her hair. Very white savior complex. But she seems to really, really care for them.
Her sister hasn't visited, though. So maybe she got jealous and snapped?

It's a very well written show, and a show I implore everyone to watch. It's equal parts dramatic and hilarious, and has a political message to it, which I appreciate.
Red, Poussey, Piper, Daya, Nicky, Sophia and Lorna are my favorites. I love to hate Vee.

I think it's mostly a trigger kind of thing. The silence and then teasing at the Christmas pageant reminded her of her graduation song, her mother was always pushing her to do things, in a way to normalize her. She hated it, but never said so, and finally it culminated into that snap that was at the graduation. She was reminded of that when they two Latina inmates teased her, triggering to remember that feeling of social isolation, the hardship the endured over the years for being different. This led her to simply snap. Piper and her mother are similar looking; blonde hair, white, so she probably saw her mother in Piper.
She's highly unstable, so I don't think we can really have any clue to why she's in prison. I doubt it was for harming/assaulting her mother.

My friend watched an episode of this last night, she asked me if I wanted to watch with her, but I didn't.
I might consider watchin it tho just for nudity 8)

There are some very attractive girls in the cast. I like that the nudity is real nudity, though. Not Hollywood nudity. It's refreshing seeing nude people that aren't perfect and look like actual nude people.
