Opinions on the 2ds?

Looks like toast
Yum.

All seriousness tho. I love the sea green 2ds color and seriously wish they made a 3ds that color ( UNA or EU, I know they have the color in Japan)

But the design of it is terrible and the fact that it doesn't close is a big negative for me
I'm pretty good at keeping my things so I've never had the problem of my 3ds or ds hinges breaking.

Wowee, I didn't think there'd be such a heated discussion about finding merit in the 2ds.

It's cheaper. There is no hinge to break, as I've seen many people say has happened to their ds and 3ds. Though the 2ds still isn't the same as a drop-proof camera, I would feel more comfortable giving a younger child a 2ds than a 3ds. All the reviews I've watched/read about the 2ds say the position of the controls are very natural and comfortable.

All of my friends who own a 3ds rarely if ever use the 3d function. I am the same.

Would I still rather have a 3ds? Yes. But I can't rag on anyone for opting for a cheaper alternative that does the same thing.

Ik i was just curious what people thought since i had considered it xD didn't think it was worth saving a bit at the time.

I think it's nice for people who don't have a lot of money or just don't want to pay more to play 3DS games.

I'm curious if there is a sleep mode since there is no hinge. I use that function a lot. I also like the folding screens of a regular 3DS because it protects the screen when I stuff it in my bag.

The only positive thing I have to say about it is that it's cheap. Other than that, I really don't see the point of it. It's like Nintendo are desperate to keep releasing different versions of the DS, and it's starting to get old. They even named the Wii U after the Wii. They should really start focus more on originality when it comes down to their consoles. The technology is amazing, but I don't think attaching it to previous consoles is really all that necessary. Aside from the price, the 2DS is pointless. Unless you like how it physically looks, it's pointless. You have the ability to disable the 3D graphics on the 3DS, so it's really pointless. If you ask me, Nintendo should have just gone back to making games for the DS instead of making an entirely new console.

I'm pretty sure there's a button for that? That's what I heard.

The 2DS came out like a week or 2 after buying my 3DS XL and I absolutely don't regret getting the XL. For one, it doesn't fold so it will take up a lot of space in my bag. The 3DS XL already takes up a lot of space, what more for the 2DS. Another thing is that I just can't imagine myself using it in public. I'm an adult man and using a 2DS in public will make me feel like I'm playing with a kid's toy. Then the screen size, after using the XL for a while, I find it quite difficult to go back to smaller screen devices. The screen makes gaming much more fun. So the only advantage of a 2DS over an XL is when you have issues with the price, but want to play the latest Nintendo games. It's cheaper, but personally, I'll be willing to shell out the extra for an XL.

yum toast
i dont see anything wrong with it, it's nice nd that sea green colour oh my god. the screens too small for me, so i'll stick with my XL but there's nothing wrong with it.

I like it. It feels a lot sturdier than the other two 3DS models, though I have to say I haven't ever had any problems with my XL either (even after dropping it several times). While it's a big larger, I wouldn't say it's any less portable than an XL, unless you've got tiny pockets. It has all the necessary functions, and is a whole lot cheaper than the XL models (obviously). The smaller screens are also not a bother - I can still see everything fine.

I'm not sure if I would recommend it as a main system. Mine is my secondary system, with my XL being my main. On my 2DS I'll cycle on my second copy of ACNL, trade Pokemon and do some other things, while my XL is used for all games I'll play normally, as well as all download titles. For the price I think the 2DS is worth it, even if you do as little on it as I do.

Pros:
- It's cheaper (though you can probably get a preowned 3DS/3DSxl in perfect condition for the same price).
- It's the most comfortable to hold/use of the three.
- If you don't like 3D, it doesn't have it in the first place.

Cons:
- It's noticeably larger than the 3DSxl (closed of course). It won't fit in any of my pockets aside from my pretty large inside coat pocket...And even then it's a struggle, simply because it's the size of an open 3DS. My 3DSxl fits easily with plenty room to spare for other things. It's mostly just the shape of it that makes it hard to actually get into deeper pockets.
- Unless you have a carry case for it, those screens are going to get damaged easily since you can't close them for protection when not in use. The extra size of a case may make it even more of a hassle to carry about if you want to stick it in your pocket.
- Along with the 3DS and 3DSxl, it's going to be 'irrelevant' soon due to the 'new' 3DS. (though that's a problem for all 3 current 3DS's, not just the 2DS).

Really, if you're not going to be taking it out with you or barely taking it out, I would say it's a good choice given the low price. Sticking it in a case when not in use is easy enough to do and shouldn't cost much more to buy.
If you're going to be taking it out with you a lot and would rather have it in your pocket...Just get a 3DS or XL.

I personally just play my 3ds xl when i'm at home. That's why i considered getting the 2ds bundled with mario kart 7 along with acnl and pokemon alpha sapphire but i knew not having the larger screens would bug me plus i wasn't sure if acnl benefitted from the 3d. Thanks for your thoughts everyone :) didn't know if i was missing out at all. Only thing i hate about the 3ds xl is the battery life and sometimes my hands cramp but i have really tiny hands

My hands get cramped when I'm on the XL sometimes. I have pretty small hands for a guy my size, but I still find my hands contorting on themselves essentially just for the L/R buttons...It must be a nightmare for other people xD That's why I think the 2DS is more comfortable, it sort of 'fits your hands, with your fingers curling around the console onto the triggers.

If you're playing at home mostly the battery life for the XL shouldn't be much of a problem. The charger cable is pretty long, so you could have it plugged in at least.
