Opinions on sanrio characters?

Even though I personally haven't had any of them in my town, I've liked Marty and Toby the best. I'd like to get some of their items someday too, they're sweet.

I never had any of the sanrio villagers but what made nintendo think that a gorilla would best represent hello kitty?

The fact that they chose the Hello Kitty, the main face of Sanrio,?s villager to be a Gorilla just surprises me. If they wanted them to not be corresponding animals, Why can?t it be a deer or wolf since everyone likes them and theyre always in the top tiers.

If I had to guess, Rilla being a gorilla who loves Hello Kitty is a reference to Koko the Gorilla, and her kittens (All Ball, Lipstick, Smoky, Miss Grey, and Miss Black). I'm not sure what happened to the last two cats, since Koko passed away last month.
