Have you ever been schooled online before (and no, I'm not talking about being dissed, I mean real school :P )? I ask because I have the option to take Mandarin online through my school next year, and am considering taking it. What's your experience with online schooling? Is it easier? Harder? What do you think of it?

I just finished a 5-week long college algebra class online. It was hell. But then again, math is pretty difficult to type what with the exponents and all. Mandarin might work though. You should go for it. :)

online classes are much harder than in-class courses, if only because you have to have the personal willpower to do your work, and teach yourself given the material. (for the most part/within reason)

my girlfriend has taken a few online classes, aced them, but she spent way too much time on them and wanted to perfect everything. english, if it matters.

if you think you can understand it already, and want to teach yourself instead of learning in-class, i'd say it's worth a shot. if you don't feel like you could teach yourself (at all), then i would say go for a in-school course, definitely.

My sister decided to do it to teach herself French. Did not work. She's only been through three lessons and there are about 15 more. She needs to finish them in five weeks. She's been slacking, which is easy to do if you don't have the willpower like Psycho said. Plus, you don't always have someone to go to when you need help.

I've never taken any online classes, and I am generally inclined to think of them as being of rather poor quality. However, for the motivated learner they can certainly be sufficient, depending on the subject. A language class is something that seems better suited to classroom instruction, so it depends on how seriously you're interested in Mandarin.

Mandarin online may be a little hard. :/ Chinese is one of those "harder to learn" languages.

As Trevor said, you need to be serious about learning it.

Good luck, my friend.
