And I can also say that you are all enjoying my informal speak. You didn't say it, but I know you are thinking it.

I'm fine with it as long as it's necessary.
If it's getting to the point where the safety of the people is in danger, I feel the government has the right to override certain rights for the good of the people.

That's where we get into the problem of the slippery slope. Couldn't the government then suppress people's right to free speech or religion to "keep the peace"?

This topic is difficult because I can see both sides of the argument, and they both have merit.

Spent 2.5 months debating about how China is good/bad.

Hey, I just got here, so I don't know what's happened over the past year.

I personally think that the one child policy is a load of poop. Seriously, it just puts more children up for adoption
No they abort them as soon as possible.

And Hasfarr why make such a moronic post?

Nah, it's nothing about the forum, just something personal.
But making overgeneralized statements like that isn't really effective. I could go on about how their economic and political benefits far outweigh any of their at-home policies.

To be fair Jack, the affirmative always was our weak point with China.

Only because we couldn't use scare tactics, like in the negative.

Quite honestly if we don't find somewhere to expand to it will be needed in more countries.

Sad as it may seem if we continue to allow families to have as many kids as they wants, some will have way to many. eventually there just won't be room for everyone, but before that a more real problem will be famine and drought. As cities grow farmland diminishes and water in some areas is already limited.

I'd remove such a law as soon as we start colonizing Mars, but I think we are still a century or 2 from that. We are already due for a rough ride without more advancements in our current food producing technology.

After hundreds of posts, this is exactly how I feel.

I'm against it. If everything would be optimal, everyone in the United States could live in an area the size of Texas. Of course, not everyone wants to live so close to others, which forces people to move out, and go live in the countryside.

But the main issue is not area, but resource consumption.

The problem with these debate threads is that people join late so you keep having opinions repeated and stuff.

China's One-Child Policy doesn't apply to all Chinese families. In fact, I think it's only about a third that are restricted under the policy.

But yeah, cultural traditions mean that this causes problems like widespread female infanticide.

I've learned to leave the threads and ignore them after that happens a few times, lol...

I think it's a bad idea. If family wants to have more than one child, they should be able to.
This^
Also its sucks the males are the only ones who get to live most of the time... If China becomes mostly boys what will they repopulate with??? O>o
