I've only seen Tarantula's and Scorpions a few times and I've never been able to catch them, but I've just come out of Retail while I was half paying attention to the game, and I saw the Tarantula out of the corner of my eye, and I caught it!!
Have I just had really bad luck with Tarantula's and Scorpions or are they always super hard to catch?
I am so happy I never have to catch those creepy things ever again. My bug collection and the museum is complete so I never have to worry about finding one before they disappear. I'm enjoying the time until they come back next summer. >_<
the only thing i've caught like that was a scorpion. i've never actually seen what the tarantula's looked like up close in the game. but now that i have they're pretty nasty lookin imo
I think my town was cursed last summer, there were loads of them , I hate spiders even virtual ones . I've managed to catch both a scorpion and tarantula so now I just try to avoid them so I don't get bitten.
Funny story about the first time I found a tarantula. (First of all, I did not manage to catch it, I only managed to get bitten by the darn thing.) See, what happened was, I was running back from a K.K. Slider concert I had gone to and I just so happened to be holding my bug hunting net in my hand. As I was running, I almost immediately noticed that a tarantula was quickly pursuing me. (Because I had the net out of course.) I tried to quickly turn around and catch him, but, to no avail. Then, I got bitten. I haven't found another tarantula ever since.
Luckily, I caught both this summer. I was really concerned that I wasn't going to get one because the more crowded your town gets with houses, trees, and PWPs, the harder it gets to find them.
I started playing when tarantulas/scorpions were in full force, and I first ran into them when I'd dropped my net to make space as I was heading to Re-Tail to sell a bunch of things. Then I tried leaving tools in letters at all times. That didn't work out well either, too slow! I got comfortable with them after a few weeks and now I have one of each on display in my back room, ha ha.
I never really understood how hard it was until I met the scorpion. I've caught 2 scorpions and 7 tarantulas. Meh. There are harder things out there anyways.

Congratulations! It took me two months to catch the tarantula, so I think they are super hard to catch. (Might also have something to do with my inability to catch ground bugs... I kept getting bitten by the tarantula!)
I saw scorpions about 4 times. Caught one and got stung twice. Now I just run away from them. Never saw a tarantula though. Congrats on catching yours!
