The death of a character. Then, start the story at the beginning and run it through normally. This can make MAJOR cliffhangers, as to why they were killed, who did it, and if their death was avoidable.

If so, Have a Mole in the Empire Take a small cargo ship onto the asteroid and deliver some supplies to the rebels. *MEGA COUGH* Someone new */MEGA COUGH*
Then Make a background story for them, then come up with other characters.

There is always the Nsider Card, Where either the Rebels call Nsider for help, Or The Empire try to win Nsider over. Then It could quickly become a 3 sided war. or, Even a Two sided War. If Nsider efused, and felt the need to destroy the Empire, they could launch a Full force attack on The Empire, But The Empire could take Someone Prisoner, A Rebel, and The Rebels would have to work toghter to Hold back Nsider. Then, The weak Alliance between the two would claim some land where Nsider is, and then , a Conflict could dispuite their.
The Empire and Nsider doesnt make much sense to me now that I think about it, since there arent much other Places to destroy ( Ac4life would be one of the few. ) However, there is always the Wild card forums like Gamespot or IGN.
Nsider and The Rebels would make things intresting, as it would turn the tables, but That may not be a good thing, as there are few rebels, and If the Rebels did something Nsider did not like, It could become utter chaos.Plus, It puts the Empire at a Major Disadvantage, Which is right back whre it started.
A 3 way War, Could be chaos too, But In a Good way. Again, The Rebels could always get a Distant Ally, Like Ign, To aid them. You could even throw in Mafia Scum. But then, Lets not get too crazy. 3 way with or without Rebels having assitance Sounds intriguing.
Of course, Its not limited to Nsider. There is always Good 'ol Sporge and his inventions.
