I pretty much got all the pwp I wanted suggested by my villagers already. I started plopping them down everyday and I was randomly planting trees everywhere because I wanted to have an overgrown town kinda look but it just looks like a mess. Idk what to do or where to start building my town. I wasted so many cedar saplings/saplings. I think I have to cut them down. Everything is a mess I'm so frustrated. I don't know how to landscape. Help 😭

Well... first things first. Are all your villagers permanent (as in your won't be moving them out) and do you have a path placed (and if not are you planning to)? In my opinion, those two things are pretty essential before you start putting down projects and planting garden items.

Also, if you wanna post some screenshots or provide a DA it might be easier to help. :o

You can always organize the trees into orchards, and then add a few here and there. I have scattered fruit orchards, and some not quite but also randomly placed oaks. That's what I call the non-cedars. I'd tell you to check my dream town, but I haven't updated since the spring and cannot remember how much I've changed the town since then...

Yes I have 8 permanent villagers. Roald gotta go. And I have another space for the 10th villager.

I'll put my town on DA. I'm not sure how to do that but I'll try now

Ok I figured it out. My DA is 4600-6886-4577

I guess I should also say that that's not all the pwp that I want for my town. I just stopped building them because I have a feeling I'll have to demolish everything if it's just not coming all together. -.-

I see where you are coming from!

Everything is up to you since it is your town after all, but if you have enough bells you should consider demolishing your PWP's and starting fresh!

Landscaping is something that most people overthink-- something i used to do a lot. If I were you, I would demolish all of your PWP's and start making a basic path (it can be 2 wide, 1 wide- you pick) and just lay the path out (you can delete or keep the path later on). This gives you a general idea of where not to build PWP's and it will help you know where to plant trees, bushes, and flowers.

I would start from the train station or town plaza and follow the path, throwing down bushes and trees in a random fashion along the path.

If you are aiming for a more forest town theme, you should consider having your paths very random (zig-zags, tight in some areas, etc). If you need inspiration go on tumblr and i bet you'll get an idea of what to do.
It's your town, so you know what you are aiming for overall, and if you are making a forest-town you can't do it wrong; everyone has a different town that sets it apart from each other's.

if you need more help pm me!

I understand 100%. My town also has an overgrown forest theme, and i have the same issues. I struggled a lot at first, i still do, but it got easier once i got it going a bit. It helps to have most of your villagers moved in. A huge part of it is to visit dream towns that inspire you, and also find inspiration in real-life photos. My town is very rough right now, only partly landscaped but the code is 4800-6817-0354

i would consider mapping out what you want to do first, and then placing them down. however if something goes wrong, then you can find a way to work around it? i'm not sure if that was good advice but it certainly helped me.

I've been victim of this too. Landscaping is not easy for everyone. I'm sure some planning and some redoing will be a big help. All those saplings can be attained again. Don't get too down on yourself! :)

Ahh. Don't feel bad. My first town was a mess when I first started. Pwp's placed randomly, flowers a mess, and too many trees. One day, I visited Nintendo's dream town. I was blown away. I didn't realize how nice I could make my town ( with a little effort). I just decorated one section at a time. Put in a little bit of path ( It doesn't go through the entire town). Most of my pwp's were removed and some placed elsewhere. It took awhile, but now my town is clean and organized. I love it.

I suggest that you start collecting more trees and bush starts. I store mine on my beach. Use flowers as markers to decide where you want your bushes. When you like how it looks, then start planting. I also use flowers or patterns to mark where I want pwps, too. And as others have said, make sure you get all your dreamies before you start landscaping. Paths are nice, but I've seen beautiful towns without paths. And remember, there's no hurry, so no need to rush. Most things aren't permanent. You can always remove trees and pwp's, if you decide you want to change something.

Aw, landscaping doesn't come easy for everybody :( and I think it's difficult to do very much with how the trees are designed in this game, the whole look of them is very neat and tidy, so I can understand why the overgrown thing didn't work out :( not being able to place things diagonaly wouldn't help that either. Maybe you should start again by collecting more saplings and bush starts for now and save them up so you've got lots to play around with. I've been in the same situation and decided to save up lots of landscaping bits.
Really helped me when I was finally in a better mind to set out my town

Im horrible at landscaping tbh. I found what helped the most is to first have a general path set just to have an idea of the foundation of your town/where you want to be walking around. Even overgrown forests have a walking path. From there, I just visited a LOT of dream towns/watched town tours on youtube and sorta collaborated a lot of ideas. It takes a bit of problem solving sometimes and your town wont look as good at first but if you work on it slowly it'll start to take shape :)

Aw, don't worry. You can always re-do it. Just takes time, patience and saving new saplings.
I also suggest you lay down some path to help you envision what to put where and how far apart things should be, then just erase it later on when you're done planting - if you're going for that all natural look. Or pick out a path that looks like stepping stones? Maybe you feel lost looking at areas without paths.. I'm like that sometimes.

I'd put paths and pwps down first and then scatter trees, mushrooms, bamboo etc
Though, I've never had trouble with landscaping overgrown towns.
I can't see your town because I can never get round to building the dream suite, so pictures would be nice

I have a forest town too, and I find that these towns require some of the most meticulous planning--because you want it to look organic, but not like a hodgepodge mess. (it's kind of like--if you understand this comparison--how "natural, no-makeup" makeup takes the MOST time, effort, and makeup)
Try to map out a town, and then you can go a little wild inside of certain perimeters that you have carefully set. Also, cleverly mixing types of trees, bamboo, and bushes makes it seem more organic without it looking like a mess.

I do my landscaping after I place PWPs or get a villager I plan on keeping. I use the PWP or the house as a focal point and then add bushes, flowers and trees around the area to decorate a bit.
