Obsession with "Original" villagers

I think it's because people can choose what to do with the villager's house if it's original. I don't mind if a villager house is original or not, but I think it's nice to have it original because you can get a better look at the main theme of the villager house, and decide if you want to add in anything from there. Customizing a house with a theme is time-consuming, but it keeps you on your toes and it's a fun thing to do if you ever get bored. (✿◠‿◠)

As of the people who try to keep it original all the time, maybe it's because the houses look a lot neater to them. Fossils and fish look really bad in houses imo, especially if they're huge and taking up tons of room. Bugs can be a pain too. For example, the cicadas! A former villager of mine kept one in her house after she asked for one, and it became annoying after a while.

Still, I don't see the big deal. At least be happy you got the villager in the first place, right? ( ⋂‿⋂’) No one town is perfect to everyone. There's always going to be a flaw. And if you don't like the villager house unoriginal, just change it back!

I only care about their clothes, but I could survive, if they're wearing something really ugly I just have Isabelle reset their clothes. Houses I don't really care about, as long as they have a music system they can make their house anyway they want. Phrases are easily changeable.

I try to keep villagers I intend on selling or giving away as original as possible because people seem to value them more. As for permanent villagers, I give them some wiggle room if changes they make to their house or attire look nice. I like to keep their catchphrases intact because I like their default catchphrases.

I don't care if they are original or not. Actually I think it has it's charms that they change over time. I would not wear the same shirt for months!? The only thing I don't want to change though, is their catchphrases. I don't know why, but whenever a villager is asking me to come up with something new, I refuse D:

Originality is an on and off for me because there are some interiors of villagers I'd like to keep because I like it (i.e. Kabuki) and others I don't care because I'll switch up their interior anyways because there original interior is horrible already.
And original villagers will sell more. It's like trying to sell two of the same thing but one is brand new and the other is secondhand. Obviously the object that is brand new will have more value and will sell at a higher price.

But in the end it all really depends on personal preference. /shrugs

i dont mind if a villager is original or not as it's nice to see the progress of the villager over time as they live in your town. i think people like originality when buying villagers is because they want them fresh and new and not with any trace of the previous towns they've been in i guess?? ah well, it is hard work to keep villagers 100% original but if that's what someone likes then go for it

I don't care if the villager is original, I rarely ever go in their houses and if they are wearing an ugly shirt I'll just send them a nicer one, I don't usually send them their original shirt, probably just one that would look good on them

I think it's rude when people ask if the villager I'm giving away FOR FREE is original. I'm not sure why, I just do.

I want to add that just because you give them back some of their original furniture, they don't always put it back in the same spot! I gave Papi back his rocking horse like 6 times, and every single time it's ended up in a different spot! I'd rather he had kept it, it was funny a horse with a rocking horse!

Could it be because they originally had a piece of furniture they no longer have after you had them? Not sure why, if I got one for free, I'd take them, I got Paula that way in my Japanese town, and hey, even if she has the honeybee chest the previous person gave her, just adds to the fact she has a bit of history with them.

i personally don't mind if the villager is original but i know it is of value to some people. i can see why, you want the villager to feel like he or she is fresh and new since he/she is new to your town. i always make a point to note the level of original-ness of my villagers when giving them away, just as an fyi.
