When a villager asks me to change their catchphrase I tell them no because I prefer original catchphrases over something lame I'd have to try and come up with
This unfortunately doesn't always work. Yeah, it does prevent you from passing one of your own made-up catchphrases on to them, but it does not stop them from passing them on to each other. At one point, both Kid Cat and Maelle were saying "cha-chomp" just like Fang did. I've had the same issue with clothing. Sometimes they'll just chat with another villager and afterward changing into that villager's shirt and start singing. You can't really prevent these things from happening. And I wouldn't say they're rare occurrences, either. It became a focus in my liveblog of ACNL that Diana's shirt/dress was some kind of curse the villagers were all passing on to each other.
I love unoriginal villagers. To me it makes the more unique, and especially when they're wearing one of the shirts that I made or used the QR reader to make it makes me really happy. I like it when there are minor changes to their houses, not to the point where it's filled with none of their original items, but a fish or a bug here or there doesn't hurt, nor does something out of their original set.
I don't mind anything except the fossils. I can't get rid of those ugly fossils in their homes no matter how hard I try. Now, that isn't a deal-breaker for me, but it comes pretty close if I intend to buy for a high price. If I offer a lot of bells, TBT or in-game, I expect at least to have no fossils.
Everything else can be changed or I can live with. Fossils...maybe I can live with them, but maybe not. It depends. If they weren't so impossible to change out I wouldn't give it a thought.
But I've personally never asked for a villager to be original and I warn others if ones I'm adopting out are or not just so people know and can decide for themselves.
I personally don't care if a villager is original or not... I feel grateful just to get the villager and if there's something I don't like about them that's changeable, I'll change it.
Before I thought about keeping some villager houses original, I used to make villagers buy my fossils at overexpensive prices, to which they end up displaying in their houses. Same goes for some furniture I send them.
It kind of happened to Francine's house, where there was a random as crane machine bam smack in the middle of her room, and a fossil to the side. Then I started to send her customized polka-dot furniture (refurbished to blue, with the dark polka tee design to match Francine's original design).
Original villagers or not doesn't really bother me as I know they will change the furniture & their clothes anyway. The only reason to stop that from happening would be to stop interacting with them completely & of course, I wouldn't want to do that. Plus, I feel happy enough just getting the villager. (*^-^*)
I don't personally care if they're original or not. I'm going to be talking to them a lot if they're staying in my town - And they're gonna change their stuff around when I hand them items. It also feels that they're more a part of your town when they're using their own catchphrase and clothing.
I actually find it more fun to give them items that fit with their home theme and change it up a little than to leave it as it is.
The only time I care about the originality is if they have furniture that's considered rare or not able to be ordered again like sloppy, cabana, mermaid etc etc
I personally don't care if my villagers have their original house or not, I'm just happy to have the villager if it's someone I really want. Their houses will get messed up anyway from taking them presents/replacing their furniture/them getting rid of things, and I'd rather have a villager I communicate with who has a bit of a messy house than all my villagers having original, pristine houses and barely speaking to them/doing jobs for them and stuff like that.
That's just me though. None of my villagers are original and I love them all to pieces, mishmashed houses and all
Speaking as someone who doesn't care how awful her villagers houses are, I can actually see why people might specify originality. For someone with aesthetic sensibilities that horrible mishmash could cause pain. Sometimes I wonder if part of Marshal and Ankha's popularity is because people want the chance to get their hands on hard to find or super expensive furniture, and if that is part of your interest in the villager it is valid to specify originality.
I couldn't care less about shirts though. I actually have a lot of fun sending my villagers unusual shirts and seeing how they look. Roald is surprisingly adorable in the armor suit, and the scale shirt suited Purrl really well.
Considering people will pay upwards of ten million in game bells for those characters, I feel like it's just easier to get the items themselves just by ordering them :/ Most of these items, while rare can be found in a catalog(or be bought from Gracie when the time rolls around.)
I actually agree and I never understood why. I mean villagers are always going to swap their furniture with something else if you don't help them with decorating their houses Their shirts, catchphrases, etc. are always going to change. Though I must admit adopting a villager from someone and seeing their house be original is actually great because I then know what I would swap out and make their houses look nicer. Though if that's not the case I always search for villager's houses to see what furniture they had and work around with it. At least thankfully I've never spent millions on a villager unless then if it's in tbt/btb.
Yes, villagers will always be changing their furniture, but NOT to fossils. Nobody is really upset by anything else but that. Maybe they will eventually get rid of them, but I've been playing for over a year and not ONE has given up an ugly fossil piece.
It looks horrendous. I still love the villagers, but those fossils are a gigantic pain in the rear. I wonder if they will EVER go away. Ugh... >_<
I think people would be horrified by my favorite villagers homes. O'Hare only has one item of his original furniture left. Trying to keep a villager prefect is like using a pail with a hole in it to hold water. Plus I like when I see a villager with an imperfect home, shows how loved they are.
I don't give a damn if a villagers house or cathphrase is unoriginal, but I be damned if the animal is wearing that god-awful chicken pattern, I hate it to my gyts xD
I talk to my villagers, give them the items they want, and allow them to change clothes. I can't imagine trying to keep them original 24/7 that must be a pain.
