Objects poofing into thin air?

So this is the second time it happens. Chadder asked me to find his lost book, and I've combed every inch of the island and the lost item is not there. I closed the game, exited building and such, item is not there.

It first happened with Wisp, when I couldn't find his last flame. Could this be a minor glitch when sometimes the objects disappear? I'm sad that I'm gonna fail Chadder's request.

Once it took me a loooong time to find wisp last spirit... so the object may be well hidden. Maybe behind the third level cliffs on the back of your island? You can't see anything there :S

I checked where you recommended and still nothing. I'm at loss

There are times it takes me 20 or more minutes to find the last buried fossil. It could just be well hidden and/or blending in.
