My copy of New Leaf was stolen. I know who did it, and when I tried to confront them they completely denied it. They were the only one that had access to my 3ds (my room, which it was in, since they were a very close friend of mine and I'd asked them to get my mouse.) and there's no other logical place it could have gone.

I'm fifteen. I'm not of legal age to get a job, and my family isn't in a great money situation so I don't know when/if I'll be able to get another copy.

You can PM me for my Skype if you want to keep in touch, but I probably won't be able to play A:NL again.

I'll miss all of you, and I wish there was a way I could get another copy but we don't have the money..

I really don't think I'll be able to get it back, and even if I do, they more than likely wiped my save.

They won't give it back willingly and my parents as well as friends have all said it's not a big deal and I should stop overreacting so there's nothing I can do.

This is why I never trust people irl.

Is it possible for you to just reswipe the game back from them without them knowing? Or failing that, get another adult to intervene? Granted that might seem a tad petty for just a video game, but so is stealing said game.

Yeah I forgot that some parents do that
If I told my parents that someone stole my game my animal crossing game no less they wound be on it because they know if they don't ship be going down XD

I don't think so. We haven't really talked since they took it and none of my other friends are friends with them- meaning I can't do it myself and I don't really have anyone else that could. My parents don't think it's a huge deal and I don't really know any other adults that could.

Even if I got someone, they'd probably lie and say it was their copy and I'd have no way to prove them wrong.

Your parents are kinda dumb tbh.

I mean I can sorta understand in the sense of adult logic that "it's just a game". But thievery is still thievery, and turning a blind eye to it is just showcasing your "friend" that they can steal whatever they want with no consequences.

Basically its not what was stolen that matters, its the principle of it all. They could've stolen a $5 book you got and it'd still be the same.

I'm so sorry you got your game stolen. I would not go around that person anymore, they are not your friend if they stole from you.
If I were you I would call their parents and ask them to return the game to you, most of the time parents try to do the right thing ^.^

@LambdaDelta
Yeah, I'm not really sure what they're thinking by just letting them get away with it. I've gotten things stolen before and my parents usually turn a blind eye to it.

@xanisha
I might! I doubt their mom will take my side, though, because they could easily just lie and say it was their copy or make up some lie about me.

I'd still say try with their parents. You may have to get aggressive/confrontational, but at least still try to stay respectful with them.

All you need is a way to prove they could never get a copy on their own, or that any methods would be really questionable. Since really, from what I've noticed, most thieves lies about how they obtained their stolen items are usually so awful I just want to ridicule them solely on the grounds of doing a terrible job at thievery and lying.

@LambdaDelta

Okay, I can definitely give that a try. Thank you for the advice. I'll do it when I get up, though, since it's already around 1 AM.

Good luck! I hope you get your game back. That's just really mean how your friend stole it from you. ; n ;

The fact that your parents don't care is really mind boggling to me. When my games got stolen, they flipped their lid because they knew how expensive this stuff is.

Definitely get another adult involved. Stealing is stealing and isn't it illegal? I mean, you could try to get said friend's parents involved or maybe even the police.

This is not something I personally would let go.

I'm so sorry your game was lost :(

Like LambdaDelta (Umineko, lol) said, you should try and ask your friend's mother if she is aware that your friend has gotten hands on a game without her knowing. That way you can prove that there was no way for your friend to get the game without buying it herself; and that she most likely stole it.
Good luck getting your game back! :)

Thanks to all of you! I will definitely let everyone know how it goes.

If I do manage to get it back, I'll have to start from a fresh town so I'll likely need some help ;^;

you know that save file like the back of your hand, you could convince their parents that it was yours by stating intimate facts about your villagers, how many you have, what your town is like, what's in your house, your dream code (IF they need this information at all). since you know all of that, there's no way you'd be lying.

as everyone said, it's the principle of the thing, not the actual thing. stealing is stealing, lying is lying, this small incident can lead to others once the kid knows that they can get away with it. it'll escalate. so ridiculous that their and your parents couldn't care less. best of luck to you.

oh yeah, providing that they don't delete it >>

Did your so called "friend" ever play the game? If she/he didn't, they wouldn't know at all how to delete your save file. So that's some proof, right?

Ugh, that is disgusting of your friend and it's so frustrating when others (parents, friends) don't understand the value of something to you. In Australia where I am, an AC game would be $70, so they should at least be able to grasp its value on that basic level, that it's equivalent of someone stealing that much money off you! But sigh... some people just don't get it.

Something similar happened to me when I was in primary school. I was into Pokemon and had all my figurines displayed on my bedside table. I invited a friend over once and after they left I realised there was one missing, and it was Mew. Those figures are easy to come by now and there are also plenty of cheap bootlegs, but at the time official figurines (Mew was one of the 2" Tomy figures) weren't easy to come by to a kid whose parents hated anime, games and little toys and who didn't have much money or opportunity to acquire them themselves. Even though my Mew was all worn and had random markings on its belly from its previous owner I traded it from, it was valuable to me.

I kept quiet after realising Mew was stolen, including never mentioning it to the girl who stole it, just waiting for the time when she would unwittingly invite me to her place. Finally the day came, and while we were playing in the yard I said I needed to go back inside, slipped into her room and found Mew sitting right there on a shelf, with all its familiar marks.

If she ever noticed I took it back, she never said it.

Statickit best wishes for getting your game back, and I hope those silly adults get their act together immediately!

(Edit: Whoops didn't mean to sound like I was targeting your parents; I mean your 'friend''s parents would need to get it together too if they don't take you seriously either.)

Cookieblazer unfortunately I'm sure even OP's 'friend' possesses the intelligence to work that one out.

holy jesus I would never let anyone get away with stealing my stuff. If you confronted them and they denied it, and you knew they took it, just punch them square in the nose. It doesn't matter what they stole, it could be a candy bar for christ's sake you just dont steal from people. And it was a betrayal so that deserves a few years in hell at least.

I'm sorry to hear that, but did you make sure you looked every place?
It is possible you might have misplaced it instead of someone stealing it.

Regardless, I would make a compromise with your parents. Asking if they can buy you a new copy during the holidays or put in a little extra work in the house to earn it. Then they will see how important it is to you.

Call me passive, but personally wouldn't do that. >.> If anything that would only make things worse especially if you don't have any physical proof. No, if you do want to get back with your friend for possible stealing it and lying to you about it, you ignore them.
