I'm so angry right now! I was about to adopt Alice. I was looking for Tex when I stumbled upon a plot for Wendy's
house. I stupidly did the one year and five day cycle. When I looked at my map Erik was gone!!!!!!!!!!!

They should. But I bet if we confronted Nintendo about it they would just
say we shouldn't TT because it's cheating.

Honestly I couldn't see them ever changing it, really. Our animals are supposed to be "free spirits" and free to come and go as they please, with only our loving influence to stop them. I mean they can't even stop each other from moving (and oh god it's gotta stay that way @_@ Imagine finally moving out that one unwanted villager only to have a dreamie convince them to stay). Plus it adds to the "challenge" of the game and the need to keep an eye on it. It encourages you to play day by day in order to keep an eye on your town and villagers. So yeah, most prolly Nintendo would never change it.

But for next time, there is a way you can be a bit safer~

If you ever do a big TT skip or if you get that bad feeling in the pit of your stomach, start a new file. Scout your village with the new file. If you see a treasured villager gone, turn the game off and set your date back to the last date you played. It'll be like you never TT'd at all so long as you did not load the future date on your mayor.

I'll never have a 4th permanent character because I utilize scouting so much~ Scouts and rumors save lives, remember! If you ever take a big risk just remember you can minimize it by quickly making a new file and running in front of every house. If you see smoke, go inside. If they're in boxes, go back. If a house is gone, go back.

I'm sorry about Erik, but hopefully this never happens to you again. Hopefully you can cycle villagers and get him back someday~

I feel your pain completely, I got careless with TTing last night and Erik moved out ;___; he's my #1 dreamie so I'm pretty cut up about it.
