NookPhone Theory

One thing I am really excited about in New Horizons is the addition of the NookPhone. firstly because of how it's a seamless menu item that I think integrates well into the immersion of the game. Now instead of going into a menu, you check your phone to see recipes or to use the camera. But I also can't help but theorize about potential other apps that could be usable within the game. For example: a weather app to let you know what to expect for that week, or a maybe we could actually talk to other villager through the phone as well. Maybe they might add in other content and updates after it's released. I think it will also be used to keep records of bugs and fish that you capture, as well as patterns that you make, I just wonder what else it could be useful for.

WHat would you like to see/think will be useful & why?

I like to think bc the confirmed amiibo support maybe like "midway" through the game depending on how much work you do, you can like "invite an islander". Perhaps it can let you scan an amiibo card?

I don't think a phone on an island is in the spirit of AC.

I would like there to be a cave in the game that you can explore and inside is very dark. Instead of pulling out a flashlight, your character pulls out the nook phone and uses the backlight lol.

I’m not too fond of the phone and honestly hope its use is limited to as little necessity as possible.
I understand why people like it, but would avoid using it all-together if I could. I hope most apps are completely optional and don’t replace other services (I still want to buy/sell items in stores, send letters by mail, go to the museum etc.)

To answer your question though, I would find it hilarious if Nook sent us a phone bill xD

i can definitely see them doing away with the genie lamp for an app on the nookphone. perhaps it's an app by wisp himself?

I can imagine the encyclopedia being an app on the phone. They also did confirm that amiibo support will be back in the game, so they will probably most likely have an app for that too. As for any other apps, I'm not sure. Can't really think of any right now other than what I just mentioned.

I don't see why the encyclopedia wouldn't be on the phone. The phone is probably just going to take place of all of the menu options, with added things like maybe calling an amiibo villager to invite them to your town or something too. I think a nookphone will be a cool little addition, but I don't want it to replace everything.

Don't take this the wrong way, but do you even like AC? You never seem to post anything positive.

On-topic: A messaging app to send messages to your villagers? Though I guess a lot of people would miss the letters too much. Other things that might be possible would be a banking app, to see your funds and maybe transfer money to other players (though this is not very likely, since there was an ABD in Nook's tent) and a calender app, to see upcoming events.

You're not [meant to lie or just post you love it] and I haven't checked out all your posts, just something I noticed from the 10 or so posts I did happen to see in other threads. Of course you're free to express your opinion, I was only wondering.

Maybe an alarm clock app would be handy, so you can set a time when you're supposed to meet with one of the villagers.

One thing I noticed in the trailer, was that it looks like whenever you or your friends are on the nookphone, I think the other players will able to see this. I think thats why towards the end when everyone is running to the shore, you see one of the players who are visiting the island pull out the phone and look at it. That player is probably scrolling through his phone menu. Just thought that was a neat feature.

Plot twist: You can play Pocket Camp on that phone. A game in a game, boom.

Jokes aside, I do like that idea of a weather app. I think something like a Fish or Bug app that
shows you all the fishs and bugs you collected so far could be a thing too. And maybe a friends
list where you can see all the other AC players you add and played with.

Don't expect major changes like that. Besides the ui is in line with the rest of the game, it doesn't look like something they'd want to change.
