In the March 2011 issue of Nintendo Power, the following are listed as "Readers' Most Wanted" for Wii (apparently the results from www.nintendopower.com/polls):

1. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
2. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean
3. LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
4. Cartoon Network* [sic]
5. Thor: God of Thunder

I recognize the Zelda game as a hugely anticipated "hit game." The others don't seem to be anywhere near the same expected quality "caliber" as Skyward Sword.

When I saw this list, my first thought was: "Is the Wii going to be replaced with another Nintendo gaming console in the near future (as in, this year)?"

The games on the DS list also seem to be of "lower caliber," but the 3DS is already "replacing" the DS.

Am I underestimating the appeal of LEGO games?

Oh no, the the 8-year olds who don't play first party games.

Played the demo of Lego Star Wars on the PS3. I was blow away by how far it's come. Compared to the originals, it's 100x better.
The Cartoon network thing is gonna be some kind of SSB spin-off.

I see Nintendo not having any big release lined up for Wii this year besides Skyward Sword as a sign that a new console is on the way holiday next year. Depends on how things stand at E3 with any new Wii games announced. The only other game I can think of is Pikimin 3 but that isn't officially unrelieved yet. I feel that Pikmin 3 may end up like Twilight Princess... so late in Wii's cycle that they push out as a enhanced launch title for the next console and a normal version for Wii.

Don't forget about Kirby Wii and Pandora's Tower, two games we don't know much about but that are slated for release this year. I'm sure the Wii is going to be around for a little while longer, for better or for worse.

Iwata said again recently that this won't be the case. I think it's just a game drought. Maybe because they are busy making new 3DS games.

The Wii came out in holiday season 2006. Gamecube came out in holiday season 2001.

So at this time of the year in 2006 (the March before the release of the Wii), about 15,000 GCs were being sold per week in the US.
Currently, about 90,000 Wiis are selling weekly in the US. I think Nintendo has another year before they release their next console.
