The Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents series is my favorite. They were three DS rhythm games that would go on to influence Osu, one of the most popular rhythm games ever made. None of these games have ever been rereleased since they contain covers of copyrighted pop, rock, punk, j-pop, and j-rock music. Each song had a stage with a cute story where your performance affected the outcome of it. On the top screen the story can be seen played out while all of the gameplay was done on the touch screen. The appeal of the series to me is that it feels like you're controlling an interactive music video and that the core gameplay works so well on the system it was made for. The series director showed interest in making another game in the series in an interview several years ago, but nothing has been announced. The series' sales were okay in the states, but not as well as Nintendo hoped because of the rhythm genre's niche nature and poor marketing. Now that Nintendo no longer makes dual screen devices the developers would have a much harder time translating the series to newer platforms. I think it's possible since the developer of Osu made the gameplay style work on PCs of all platforms, but I don't know if the developer would be willing to put in the effort.
If you like rhythm games and want something different I think the series is still worth a shot, even if the audio is super compressed from the DS' limitations. Their song lists are small, but a lot of love was put into these games and they're still relatively cheap on the secondhand market.
