Neither of us know for sure if there will be or not, and right now the evidence points towards "no". At least not anytime soon, that's for sure.

And what if, by the time you're ready to buy the system, it's nearly impossible to find one to buy? This happened with the Wii, and it's going to be even worse with the 3DS. If you don't get your preorder in soon, it may be very hard to get your hands on one for awhile.

The 3DS is in no way a revision of the original Nintendo DS, or any other DS for that matter. It's a completely new system that just happens to have a similar design and name. It's much like the difference between the Game Boy Color and the Game Boy Advance. Two similar, yet very different systems.

I have a perfectly fine DSi that I barely ever play at the moment, I don't want another DS to play the same games that I play once in a blue moon.

As for it being sold out, I don't care. Besides I'll most likely not bother until Christmas time at the very earliest so that gives it a good 8 months and if it still is sold out then that's also fine because I'm always terribly busy around Christmas time to have time to play any games.

You're just twisting the situation. First of all, you know that there will be games on the 3DS that you'll want. Plus, it has backwards compatibility for your existing DS games. It just makes sense for you to get it as soon as you can. Plus, then you can sell your DSi sooner and get the most value for it, if you're planning on selling it that is.

Now, about the Xbox 360, there is no guarantee that there will be games that I'll want to play on it. Okay, I'll admit that there have been a few games here and there that I'd give a shot if I had a 360, such as Plants vs. Zombies and a few Sonic games, but that's not enough to warrant a purchase in my opinion. With Nintendo consoles, I know that there will always be games coming out that I know I'll enjoy, and I have more than enough entertainment with just Nintendo consoles, so there's no good reason for me to go out and buy another console. Besides, the situations are very different. In the case of the 3DS, we're talking about getting a brand new system either on launch or waiting until "better" games to come out for it. In the case of the Xbox 360...that's just you trying to come up with a smart ass reply to me.

I doubt that, but whatever. And I was under the impression that there were quite a few 3DS games that you're wanting to play, but if that's not the case, then the situation is very different. If you're not even sure if you want the console or not, then your reasoning makes sense. I thought otherwise, however, which is why I didn't understand your logic. And I could care less if you get a 3DS or not. I just wanted to know why anyone in their right mind who really wants a 3DS and is able to purchase one would pass up the opportunity to get one on launch.

Eh, I wouldn't really call the DSi XL a revision of the DSi. It's more of a bigger alternative. It's the same exact software, and nearly the same hardware, just bigger. It was never trying to make the DSi obsolete like was the case with the DS Lite to the DS, it was just providing a larger alternative to the compact DSi.

But I'm just getting technical here. =p

There won't be a lite. It's likely to be an XL given the 3DS is the size of a Lite.

Why does there have to be? Sure, they do have a record of making revisions to their handhelds, but unlike other companies, they rarely make revisions to their home consoles. Also, all of their handheld system revisions have had obvious reasons behind their creation:

Game Boy revisions
Game Boy Pocket: Slimming down the giant Game Boy
Game Boy Light: Addition of a backlit screen for better viewing

Game Boy Color revisions
Owait, there are none!

Game Boy Advance revisions
Game Boy Advance SP: Return of the backlit screen, slimming the system down more
Game Boy micro: Even more slimming down!

Nintendo DS revisions
Nintendo DS Lite: Slimming the somewhat bulky Nintendo DS down and making the screen brighter
Nintendo DSi: Providing more functionality to the system, with cameras, DSiWare, SD card support, etc.
Nintendo DSi XL: Bigger screens for better viewing, more room for input

Now, at this stage, what possible reasons would Nintendo have to make a revision of the 3DS? It's already small and compact, has bright backlit screens, and has a plethora of features... There's not really any kind of revision that I can even imagine. Nintendo wasn't lying when they said that they really packed this system full this time and therefore have no plans for a revision, at least at this point in time. I can see the possibility of a 3DS XL being made, but even that seems unlikely, because it completely goes against the entire nature of the 3DS.

Nintendo made the 3DS so small because they want people to carry it around with them everywhere, unlocking and sharing new content from other 3DS users and wireless hotspots. The size of the system, the built in Activity Log and Play Coins system, and SpotPass and StreetPass features are all part of Nintendo's effort to push mobility and connectivity with the 3DS. If you make the system much bigger, less people will be willing to carry it around with them, thereby defeating this purpose. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a 3DS XL, and I'd take it everywhere I go regardless, but I don't think it's a very likely possibility.

i don't believe that they won't change something about the system somewhere down the road.
i'm not certain, but i would go as far to say at the time of the game boy's release, they thought they were pretty hot **** in terms of portable gaming. same with the gba/ds.

I totally disagree. Its an amazing acheivement to make such a 'groundbreaking' console SO small. You just have to remember the graphics and the 3D portions must be teensy
