Nintendo, I Am Disappoint...

Would you rather Nintendo rush out the games you want most in time for launch, jeopardizing the quality of the games, or wait until they've had the development time they need in order to completely finish the games? You can't have great games without the necessary development time. At least be satisfied that you're able to purchase the console soon. At least we get Nintendogs + Cats, Pilotwings Resort, and Steel Diver. With those, the plethora of third party games, the built in features, and even new DS games coming out (Pok?mon Black and White, anyone?), there's plenty to satisfy everyone for a few months until the more anticipated games come out. I'm actually glad that there aren't any launch games that I want besides Nintendogs + Cats, because that means I don't have to spend as much money! The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, and Animal Crossing can all take their time, because I have a huge backlog to keep me busy in the mean time, and I'll be having a blast playing Pok?mon and Nintendogs + Cats and messing around with the 3DS system features until then.

Who needs to reply when you can just quote Tye? 8D

i think tye has a point, but i have to side with tom, here.

i would much rather have a nice wide selection of games as opposed to one or two good ones and 5 or so decent games.
waiting doesn't make a whole lot of sense if the system is already finished.. but i think they may have jumped the gun on releasing it. only time will tell, i guess.
i hope a lite version doesn't come out (soon), but i expect one to come out within the next two years.. or at least a price drop of some sort. hopefully. hopefully.

anyways, i'm perfectly content having a new pilotwings game, but it woulda been nice if they held their handheld back even 4 months to let devs finish their projects. seems like they did this with the DS, too. all of the best games came out around a year after they had a steady stream of "tech demo" games. hope they changed that, this time around.

Well it looks like Nintendo knows the launch titles aren't so great, which is why they keep mentioning the games out by June.

The problem with Nintendo holding off on the release is...well, it's the same problem for both cases, really. People will get mad either way. If they don't launch the system with the games everyone wants, people will get mad. If they hold off on the system launch and make people wait longer, people will get mad. At least they're releasing the system soon for the people who want it, and if you really want to wait to buy it until you can buy games you like to go with it, then no one's stopping you from doing that. I just don't see the point to that... Not only are you spending more money at one time if you go that route, but you're also missing out on experiencing the 3DS itself. But whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

And about a Lite version, Nintendo has stated that, unlike previous handheld releases, Nintendo has made no plans to make a revision of the system after launch. For other handhelds, the decision to make a better, more compact version of the system was made even before the original system launched launch. This is because as Nintendo was making the original system, they realized how they could improve it in the future, when hosts were lower and other factors were right. However, in the case of the 3DS, Nintendo packed it to the brim and focused on compactness, to the point that there is no need for a revision. I suppose there's always the chance of them making 3DS XL (though I'd say the chances are low because it would hurt portability, one of the key aspects of the 3DS), but a 3DS Lite is pretty much out of the question.

They should have just focused on getting at least one good game by launch.
Nintendogs + Cats isn't good? What about Pilotwings Resort? Steel Diver? Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition? Dead or Alive: Dimensions? Super Monkey Ball 3D? LEGO Star Wars III? The Sims 3? I'm just listing games here, but c'mon, there has to be something that you like. And even if there isn't, there will be soon. You can't rush game development. Well, you can, but the results are often disastrous. C'mon, Jeremey! Don't you want Animal Crossing 3DS to be the best it can be?

to say it's easier because you don't have to buy it all at one time.. is kinda.. wat. you still have to buy it in the long run.. i GUESS it could give you more time if you're an impulse consumer and want your 3ds right now, but i would rather get a console + a game (or two) to keep me busy. i think pilotwings is good and will keep anyone who likes it at bay.. but i really think they should have held off the release until a couple more additions were brought forward. they'll come out eventually, nbd, but i just think it's a bit half-baked this way. meh.

if they said that a lite version would be made in a year, no one who knew that and cared would buy the initial launch product.
nintendo may in fact be telling the truth.. but i don't believe it, right now.

All of those I'm sure are decent games, but hardly mind blowing games that you would expect at launch.

Well, yeah, you're still paying the same amount, but it will be less money at one time. There are many reasons why not buying it all at once can be a better option, mostly financial reasons, but the biggest reason, for me at least, is the fact that you'll get to experience the system early. Now, I realize I'm just repeating myself at this stage, but, c'mon. Why would you not buy the system at launch, even if it means you probably won't be buying any games with it? You still have all the built in features of the system to mess around with, not to mention the ability to play all your existing DS games, and you get to experience the glasses-free 3D. Sure, you may not be playing the kind of content that you're waiting for, but at least you have a small bit of it while you wait.

Obviously, I'm not trying to convince you to buy it or anything, since it seems you've decided to purchase it eventually anyway, so don't think I'm just playing fanboy here. I'm just wondering why you would wait to buy it. Now, if there was going to be a price cut soon, or if you didn't have enough money at the time, or if your birthday or a holiday was coming up soon, then I would understand your reasoning. But, assuming none of that is the case with you, I don't see the logic in waiting. If you want the system, and you have the money to get it, why not snatch it up as soon as you can? It just doesn't make sense to me. Just the fact that people would hold off on buying a 3DS, or anything new and exciting for that matter, intrigues me. Why?

And, yes, of course Nintendo could be holding off on something, but they're always very honest when it comes to details about future systems. If they're developing something that they don't want to reveal information about yet, then they'll simply say that they can't talk about it. But when they openly admit to something like this, they're being honest. I know we can't prove that they're absolutely telling the truth, but why would they lie? Like I said, if they had something that they didn't want to reveal yet, they just wouldn't comment on it, like always. Plus, this info comes from an Iwata Asks interview, which focuses on revealing interesting facts about the development of Nintendo games and systems. I highly doubt that Nintendo would lie about something like this in that context. Besides, it just makes sense. Just look at the 3DS. They can't make it much smaller or compact than it already is!

All of those I'm sure are decent games, but hardly mind blowing games that you would expect at launch.
How many consoles have had a mind-blowing launch lineup? Not very many. The "mind-blowing" games come later on, after developers have figured out how to use the system to its full potential, and after the games have had the development time that they need. That's why we're getting so many ports near launch. Instead of taking years to create a brand new game, developers can cut the development time exponentially by just remastering an older game. That way the developers can still push out quality titles in time for a new system's launch.

Yeah, it would be nice to see, a Mario game on that list or something.

I mean, to be honest, there isn't really much on that list that interests me too much.

Seems like all Tye's posts are just excuses for Nintendo.

Are you sure you don't work for them, Tye? Lmao.

Unfortunately, no, I don't work for them. =p I wish.

But really, I could be saying the same "excuses" for any other company or thing that I'm passionate about. And I'm not really trying to make excuses here, anyway, I'm just trying to understand why anyone who wants the 3DS would pass up the opportunity to get it on launch... It just doesn't make sense to me.

Because if there are no good games I may aswell wait for the 3DS Lite which'll most likely be out a few months after rather than wasting my money on a console I won't play.

I already said that the chances for any kind of 3DS revision is very slim, and that comes from Nintendo themselves. And even if there were to be a revision, it would be much further off than just a few months.

Oh, there will be a revision, you can be sure of that.

And either way, what's the point of me buying a console I won't play? It'd make more sense to buy it when there's games out that I'll actually play on it.
