Hi guys.

I just recently bought a Nintendo 3DS for my brother and he wanted Pokemon Y so I thought "why not make use of the deal?"

The website says:

1. Buy, link, and register your game system.
* Buy a Nintendo 2DS, 3DS, or 3DS XL
* Link your new system to your Club Nintendo account
* Buy one of the 6 qualifying games
* Register both PINs at Club Nintendo by 3/31/14

+++++++++++

My brother lives in Europe, and I'm in America right now, so naturally I bought the 3DS from here. The website states the offer is only for USA and Canada. What I want to know is; Do I have to turn on the 3DS and connect to the internet, set region to USA etc. to be able to get the Pokemon Y code? Or can I just register the 3DS and game to get the code.

If I have to set the region to USA (which, it seems more and more like I will have to), is it possible to reset it to Europe at a later date?

Uhh that's all the questions for now, I will add more if I can remember them, thanks in advance! :lemon:

There's a region lock on all 3DS's, so unless it's a North American system, it won't work. :c

This is sadly the correct and only answer. :/ When Nintendo released the DSi, everything came attached with region locks including all DSi-enchanced games, eShop titles, and everything on the 3DS.

So I guess I gotta use my brother's gift before he can use it himself.. sucks, haha.

Thanks though guys! :)

In my country they sell Asia, US and EU 3DS (Mostly avail US) huehue and it's a good think I bought US

I almost flip today when I seen that my Sister has been using all of me and my other bro/sis club codes to get free stuff for her self! No wonder our 3ds and 2ds didnt have any codes

To be fair, Europe gets a lot of promotions or had been, the US/Canada promotion was a blessing to some.

Ohh, I didn't know about that D: wish every promotion could be worldwide! XD

Oh! Does anyone also know if games bought from Europe would work on 3DS bought from USA and vice versa?

I've got some experience with this.

I have an EU 3DS and a JP 3DSLL. If you call Nintendo-Europe as I originally did they will tell you a bunch of rubbish about how the systems won't work outside their country of origin. My LL connects fine through my UK ISP and cheerfully downloads Japanese (But not European) freebies. It's not where you set your region to but where the system itself comes from that matters. I'm pretty sure you should be able to register the system and game as described in your OP. It won't mind that it's connecting to internet from outside the US.

My Japanese 3DSLL will not load the EU 3DS's games, and vice versa. If your bro's system is American he will need to buy American carts and will also NOT be able to use European points cards for the eshop.

Ahh, thanks so much for the clear explanation :)

So I guess I'll have to be the bridge between him and US games/eshop point cards hehe. I suppose it can't be helped, since I already bought him the system. Thanks so much again for your reply jolokia!
