We still have our N64 that we got when I was really young. It still works very well for its age. It's still my absolute favorite game system that we own and I would recommend it to anyone.
As for buying one, I'd go through eBay accounts and look at the people who have high ratings. I found buying used game systems from a game store can end you up with bad systems.

I got mine when I was really little so I don't remember where my parents got it from. You could try Craigslist, Amazon, or maybe start looking around thrift stores and maybe the video game stores in your area.

side note, I have no idea where my n64 is right now but last time I used it a few months ago it was working just great :')
