Ken calls me cowboy. That's basically about it.
Maybe you already knew this, but you can change your nickname the next time a villager suggests one to you. When they ask you if you like the name they made up for you, you can say no and then they will ask you to come up with a nickname yourself.
Thanks! Does this work on villagers who already have a nickname for you?

Usually I hear out their suggestions but don't let them use the nicknames, because the next day some other villager will ask me if they can use the nickname and I'll be like dude no that's awful stop.
The last nickname a villager gave me was Z-cat. Said villager has not lived in my town for a long time.

Mine call me kitty. I've also been 'bro'. I don't like 'bro', tbh. I like the nickname thing, though. I like knowing even if I can't change my name, I can always have them call me whatever. Plus, hearing your Mayor's name all the time gets old, in my opinion.

I let my villagers do whatever. My favorite was when T-Bone asked to call me june bug, which is what my dad used to call me when I was little 
If I like the name a villager gives me then I'll keep it. Merengue suggested calling me "muffin" and I thought that was super cute. I really want Fang to suggest a nickname for me... if he suggests something I don't like, I'd love to have the option of making him call me "cutie" or "princess". (*?∀`*)

Yes! Once in a while they'll think of a new name for you. As far as I know, it's completely random who pings you for it, and it doesn't matter whether they already had a nickname for you or not. The only thing I can imagine influencing this is friendship, where higher friendship may make them more likely to give you a nickname. But that's pure speculation.

Awesome, thank you! I really want that villager to call me something nicer (and we do have very high friendship since I keep talking to that villager, I think).
I'm the sort of person who agrees with everything an NPC tells me. So I currently answer to Mega L, L Bear, Ladybro, Princess and Ms L. I haven't heard Mega L for a while so it is possible that one died out, but Princess is spreading like wildfire among my villagers.
I had no idea that Ladybro was a nickname you could set. One of my villagers called me that and didn't ask anything about it, and it doesn't show up in colourful letters (like the other nicknames do). Weird!
I think the nicest one I have is cupcake. The others I find kind of corny, since they're the ones related to the initial letter in your name and those just seem boring to me.
