Well the pokemon started losing their origionality (except for the legendary ones) and the games got a bit predictable... oh and the day/night system <_<

If they had kept the original 151 Pokemon in all 4 generations without adding new ones, no one would buy the games anymore because it's still the same basic story, it would just be the same exact game with a few things added on, that's why they add 100-200 new pokemon in every generation, to hide the fact that they're story is stale.
