Next Nintendo Handheld after new 3ds?

I do really think they should try something new. Like, really new. Something with one screen, something with HD, anything that doesn't fit their norm, if only just for the sake of doing it once for some variation.

I don't wanna pull the rug from under something successful. Like I said, I'm loving the 3ds era. I'm just getting a little restless, it seems like it will all be downhill from here.

I actually kind of envision that, but it's probably because of the "all in one" thing haha I imagine a pristine 3D (headache free like perfection) gamepad sort of thing. But people like their clamshell, so I'm wondering how to get back to 1 screen. If they develop a foldable screen, you know they show those off at electronic expos now.

But I agree and feel you on the downhill from here thing. I think this happened before LOL I got tired of the DS when the Wii got awesome. I do find I pay way more attention to my WiiU now than my 3DS. It might be shifting time for me. It's pretty much because we know what to expect from this system cause we've been playing it for years now. But for Nintendo, they need to rack in the cash so we can even have our next 3 systems :/ I try to live in the moment, someday this will be a distant memory and I don't want to rush it away haha Can't get those old Game Boy day feelings back the way they once were.

ugh double post. This website lags so badly sometimes.

Foldable screen would be so weird. I do not know how I'd feel about it. but of course i'd buy it bc im a sucker for anything they release

I haven't played my Wii in a couple months, but as of this very moment, it's my only home console. I never really fully indulged myself in home gaming at all, and I only got like 3 games for my Wii. So, I don't really know what it's like to prefer one of nintendo's home consoles over their portables.

oh Nintendo is bound to do a handheld HD. No doubt about that.

Just a matter of when, and if 3D is included

I've always had both, since Gameboy + N64, but until a couple years ago I had a hard time juggling more than one system at once of any sort. So I've flip flopped a few times between which was my main thing going on. Nintendo seems to release in favor of one or the other too, especially now, the 3DS will gave waves of games, then they nearly ignored it for E3 last year in favor of the WiiU, which is a trend that seems to be continuing for a while longer. I remember the same thing happened with the DS & GameCube, they lagged forever to get a real foot in the door with the DS because they focused on the GameCube's final days. Lol people forget the DS had a rough start too.

That.

I don't think that 3D will be included. It really seemed like more of a gimmick than anything, and I don't know how popular it is. :L

I enjoy the 3D, it gives it depth. Did everyone forget how pixilated the DS looks in comparison to the 3DS? It's got great depth and even when it's in 2D mode I can tell it's not at it's best. Headaches and puke pails aside, I just am still surprised how many people just want to abandon it. I'm glad they're trying to make it better with the New 3DS instead of canning it. I feel like they're gonna give us the option for a while :/

I mean, they have to do it eventually. Even if it takes away from the stylistic choices I love, especially how the lack of HD looks in pokemon games (fabulous), I can assume it'll happen eventually. But definitely not soon.

The 3D is definitely more of a gimmicky thing, I wouldn't be surprised if they removed it next gen.

Then again, nintendo isn't quick to just trash ideas. They might keep it around for a while, even if I find it next-to-useless.

That.

The more you remind me of how it's gone down in the past the more it becomes clear that they're probably going to finish off the 3DS and WiiU "tradionally" with their cycle and do something new the next round. Especially since it seems like they could finish them off around the same time.

Why do people still say that the 3D is a gimmick? You forget they use to say the 2 screen was a gimmick but that stuck around and you all eat their butthole for that one everytime you turn on the system.

Visuals are like 70% of the game, how is 3D useless???

I never thought the dual screens were a gimmick, I always thought of it as a trademark. But, I was not around for all the glory of the gameboy era, so I shouldn't be talking.

The 3D never did anything for me. I almost never use it, except for occasionally during pokemon cutscenes. And don't get me started on when I first got my 3DS and tried to play ACNL with the 3D on all the time, there was physical pain involved there.

I think that if they focused more on the 3D function I would more often and it would be a lot more enjoyable. While I don't think It's completely useless, because I think it looks pretty good on some games if you angle it correctly, I don't think a lot of people use the option a lot, either. :/

That being said I do hope they still include it and improve it - I really like the idea of a better 3D function. :)

Lol everything Nintendo puts out people say is a gimmick. The N64 joystick was a gimmick, the duel screens were a gimmick, the Wii remote, 3D in the 3DS and now the WiiU gamepad have all been called a gimmick. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gameboy Color got trash talked at it's start because it wasn't that special at the start. LOL I remember watching my friend play Pokemon on his GBC and each town was just a solid shade of whatever town you were in. Cerulean City = blue shade, Saffron = Yellow, Pewter = light gray.

The NES actually was gimmick filled with the laser shooter and ROB and whatever the hell else came out of that. NES Advantage, etc.

Bleck, ACNL the only 3DS game that I just cannot do the 3D with... disappointing because the game is a 9.9/10, if I could just use the full potential of it all.

That just proves people don't understand the word gimmick. All of that we still use today. The only gimmicks you mentioned are the peripheral trash from the NES. The 3D improves the system, it's a FEATURE. It's like saying "take out the wifi feature I only play 1P local games". Buy a Wii Mini and shut up.

Oh well then of course if you're not using it then I still think they should give you the OPTION, thankfully they don't force it on us. If they ever say "lol no more 2D" then we'll have a problem

The useless peripherals are what are gimmicks. All those Wii remote attachments for Wii Sports or other games that did nothing but be there to make yourself feel like your Wii tennis was real. Or at least one way to look at it...

There's no need for you to get so angry about it. I simply think that the 3D option wasn't necessary for gameplay, and it didn't improve my experience. If you like playing games in 3d, that's fine, but it really wasn't something that enhanced play for me, and it just doesn't make sense for them to put it in their next handheld.

Who's mad? I think we were just saying.

I remember people going nuts over that one package that had the golf club, tennis racket, and boat paddle for Wii Sports Resort. They were just white pieces of plastic that acted as a sort of glove for the controller. That's so awkward I never thought about that, so you play the tennis game for 2 minutes then quickly change out the glove for the boat one? Why not just not have it.

GBC is more like a half step, a stepping stone to the GBA. It didn't change at all except the screen. It's like the DS to the DSi, or XL. A full step is GB to DS to 3DS to ___

yes but you can't play game boy color games on a game boy

Uh Yes you can cause I never had a GBC and I had GBC games. Prime example is Pokemon Gold & Silver.

I laughed so hard cause I can't find where anyone got mad and that's happened so many times today

Never really thought of any of those things as gimmicks except 3D, but you're probably right, it could easily become another trademark. Just... not a favorite of mine. It's funny because now that I think about it, I usually love gimmicky things.

haha well of course they'll always have to give a 2d option, they'd mess with my eyes if they didn't.

Yeah, I guess it's kinda silly to want to ruin it for everyone just because I don't use it, but I just feel like they could've invested their time into something better than a half-baked 3d feature.

I don't think they'd bother with a new 2ds. It seems kinda not worth it.
i might even call it a gimmick
