so I was thinking and nintendo is probably going to like release the new 3ds hd or some **** like 3 years from now and suckers like me are going to buy it and then 3 years year from then it's going to be like next gen handhelds 'the new 3dsi lite xl hd' and I'll buy it and they'll have like the amiibo 2.0 and super smash bros. 5 and It'll even have more fighters and it'll be epic and then there will be more new games and I waste all my money on games

I reckon sometime in 2017 is when we will have new handheld, handhelds usually last nintendo 6 or 7 years after all. Having a HD handheld made by Nintendo would be awesome though.

Like 2017 or 18.
It's been mentioned by Nintendo that they think they want to try and do an all in one system. Connects to the TV but also has a to-go part. Like the WiiU if the gamepad was the 3DS. I'll keep thinking that's the next thing until they steer my mind elsewhere :p

Unless they can do that and have it as powerful/more powerful than the PS4 and Xbone, I can't imagine so.

Unless the 'handheld' part of the system was less powerful away from home o.O I dunno, I just can't imagine something 'next next gen' working as a handheld system and still maintaining good portability, battery life, 'next gen' power etc.

I would think Nintendo would be going for a more powerful system next time to win back some third party support since despite they say "Nintendo doesn't need it", you can tell they actually want it based on how much they tried with the Wii U's launch.

Though I wouldn't say no to the idea. It would probably be more cost effective for me to have an all in one system rather than buying a console and a handheld...Assuming they don't keep upgrading the handheld part every 6 months...

Why would that not work? They already demo'd this idea by using the 3DS as the WiiU controller for Smash Bros WiiU. You can always fall back on the idea that "you never know what technology will bring", that honestly makes no sense to just say "no it won't work i can't imagine it so it won't work". The handheld doesn't have to be less powerful unless it's deriving less power when working as the controller for a "TV only game" or something. The WiiU gamepad came from 2 Wii Remotes on a board with a screen. If that's how they're making things then who knows what they'll end up with.

I'm not suggesting they're going to say "hey start this game on TV then take the controller and leave the house" but who knows, read about that Quality of Life stuff if you don't know about it, they're talking about exercise and gaming.
There's already been "mention" amongst gamer internet rags talking about if the gamepad were 3D. I'm sure if Nintendo brought us nearly the only 3D product on the market that's worth a purchase I'm sure they can figure something out to make an all in one system.

LOL @ Nintendo making something more powerful than the other two. If they did it, it would only be because sales are just so poor they have no choice but to keep up. People said it was time with the WiiU but now suddenly it's back in the game even if it's not as physically strong. They've made their stance that power doesn't equal fun.

2017 is my guess. I was happy with the launch of the NEW 3ds, it just meant more time that my 3ds would still be the current gen nintendo handheld. I'm hoping for another complete overhaul, like from the dsi to the 3ds. I'm think 2 full-size circle pads. pls.

A jump like from the DSi to the 3DS is moving onto a whole new line.

DS line ≠ 3DS line

I know it's huge, but the 3ds era has been done to death. I mean, it's my favorite, but it's future is laid out ahead of it. By now, there's like 6 iterations of it, and now all that's left is to wait it out. I'm really hoping for some big changes.

I agree with this.
I think that sounds pretty cool, tbh. I'm not really sure what they'd do after that (But, who knows.). I wonder what that'd look like, though, lol.

You obviously were born after the GameBoy era or have no memory of it whatsoever.

This.
Gameboy went from 1989 to 2004, it took until the GBA in 2001 to get the L&R buttons the first major change aside from the new shape, but the product was the same and played the same games. Even looking at the time the DS has been around you still got a few more years left on this line. Like when the WiiU is done.
Huh. Maybe that 2 in 1 system would work out really well for them on their timeline.

If you actually want to get specific, the DS did succeed the GB line in 2004 but the GB Micro continued the line until 2008, it got nearly a full 20 years on the market before they said no more. The full DS line could be on sale until 2024 with a new sort of 3DS that "no one wants" that will go on sale after the new successor comes out in like 5 or more years. Just like every other time. History will repeat itself.

Not gonna lie, I was barely around for the end. But it's not the 90's anymore, drastically different consoles are being pushed out by nintendo a lot faster, and if I'm correct, I think the number of 3ds's put out in this short time is about equal to the amount of gameboys they managed to release in like... 10 years?

GBC is more like a half step, a stepping stone to the GBA. It didn't change at all except the screen. It's like the DS to the DSi, or XL. A full step is GB to DS to 3DS to ___

Aha, yea, I remember the gb micro! My friend had one, she called it a "mini ds".

Eh, agree to a point. First problem is that it's Nintendo and even though they've got the money and power to blow everyone away they choose to do the same patterns over and over. Plus you've got to think that they can't just keep changing the console over and over, they've got their own plans for the 3DS that take time to execute, and not everyone who wants a 3DS has one yet, despite it seeming so. Sales are still strong for the system, why pull the rug from under something successful? It's the top selling game system this gen... if you want to count it amongst the big 3 + the PSV.

There's more stepping stones than that. Each model gave the GameBoy a new option. There was the slimmed down "Gameboy Pocket" and then there was the Gameboy Light which added a screen backlight.

Errgg plus changing the game system over and over wouldn't make third parties happy either.

UGH PLUS don't forget the Wii Mini, that's something we've not had since NES am I right? I don't believe there was an N64 era SNES or a GCN era N64. But people buy it, just like they bought the DSi even after the 3DS era was well into effect. There's no logic. Yeah you and I may be done with DS but in Europe it still sold better than the 3DS until last holiday. x_x

I do really think they should try something new. Like, really new. Something with one screen, something with HD, anything that doesn't fit their norm, if only just for the sake of doing it once for some variation.

I don't wanna pull the rug from under something successful. Like I said, I'm loving the 3ds era. I'm just getting a little restless, it seems like it will all be downhill from here.
