Next next generation

Well after this round of systems how far do you think games will be in the system after this?

I personnally think it will get closer to virtual reality. with much of the tech in the rev controler you could make a visor that you can look around in.

One other thing that I know will happen is places like this, online communities will thrive. It will no longer be something only some do but video games will become as popular as movies are. There wwill be some online games that are just life like the sims except may be you could just go and chat around. We would no longer need a site like this just a server and everyone can meet in a virtual cafe or townsquare to chat and have fun, but that's just what I think.


I honestly may be thinking too far ahead but then again a few years nowadays change a lot in video games.

I think the Rev will win next-gen, so when next-next-gen comes around, I think Microsoft will try to be innovative, and Nintendo might lose that round. I think next-next-next-gen will be VR.

nintendo's ahead of their time...not with rev but they were with virtual boy...had to bring it up when you said vr.

They will proboly come up with games that come with their own special controllers like for mario kart, you get a gas pedal, steering wheel, power slding pedal, and a switch on the control to activate items. And be online. And for Mario adventure games there would be boots and gloves to wear to be Mario. I think thats what their gonna do. Have more detailed graphics and more immersive.

I will start this off with my racetrack analogy...

Suppose, for a moment, that Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all Racecars... right now, they're all headed down a path to get money, at the time, Graphics seem to be all the rage, the Tracks name is now graphics, Sony and Microsoft are sucking up all the cash they can get from Graphics, and speeding down the line, they're bashing into eachother, and headed strait... nintendo has fallen behind, they had to make a "pit stop" in which time, they lost their lead, but while at this pit stop, they saw a shortcut if you will, while Sony and Microsoft were battling it out down Graphics lane, they didn't notice the turnoff to innovation alley, a turnoff that would determine the rest of the race, nintendo saw the turnoff, and took it, while Sony and Microsoft sped down Graphics lane, not knowing what would be at the end... the end of graphics lane is a dead end, and a sharp turn to try to get back on innovation alley, which gives nintendo a giant lead, once again... this would be the outcome of Scenerio 1, seen below...

yeah, pretty horrible i know but yeah, anyway...

Depending on the outcome of this generation, i can take a guess at saying Sony and Microsoft will do one of the following things, depending on one of the following Scenerio's.

Scenerio 1: Sony and Microsoft continue trying to get the "best" graphics.
both of them will keep shooting down that wall, until the point that will eventually happen happens, that is, there aren't better graphics... its as realistic as it could ever be, and will ever be... at that point both of them will scramble for anything nintendo hasn't already taken, leaving them at the bottom of the bottom.

this will happen if Sony and Microsoft continue down their current path, and will happen anywhere from 2 generations to 4, in my guess.


Scenerio 2: Sony and Microsoft start to innovate.
they stop, back up a bit, and turn down innovation alley themselves, depending on when they figure out the shortcut, depends on how much a chance they have to survive, if early enough, like, next generation, they may see themselves through... if later though, they would have a tougher time catching up, because graphics have their limits. the earlier they back up, the more room they have to innovate themselves, the later they back up... well, they'll basically be picking up scraps...

of course, there are too many variables to call this the truth... its basically my guess.

My thoughts exactly, Fish. Nintendo is an innovator at heart, and making games fun is more important to them than making them good looking. Seriously, if you really want to see good graphics, go to a CGI movie or something. Who cares if the graphics are awesome if the game itself sucks? Call me a Nintendo fanboy, call me whatever, but I believe that Nintendo is going the right way with their products. Just look at the DS for proof. People bashed it and called it a gimmick, but it is now the fastest selling system ever, with 13 million+ units sold in just a bit more than a year. And, with that, not TONS of good software has appeared on the DS this past year... Imagine if there was an MMORPG on the DS this past year, or Zelda DS. Yep. Enourmous sales.

Or look at the Xbox 360 sales on opening week in Japan. Pitiful, if you can even call it that. The DS beat it, and even the old GBA beat it! The Japanese people know what they want, and they want something more than good graphics; something more than awesome presentation; they want something new. For how many years can we continue to use the same old controller, and play the same old games, with maybe a single innovative title, and even IT will be overlooked and blasted to pieces by licensed properties that aren't even worthy of being a videogame!

That is why the Revolution is very important to the gaming market. Satoru Iwata was right; the game industry is slowly dying, and if things go at this pace, then there will be no videogame industry at all; prices will be sky-high, as is already evident by CNN's prediction of the PS3 price ($500). Game prices will also go higher, and thus people will stop buying videogames. This has already happened in the past with Atari. Atari was like present-day Sony. They were all about power, and the sort. The price for their system and games were high, and the industry was about to collapse, when... What do you know? The NES comes out, at a way lower price than the competition, and tons of awesome games. The game industry is revived, and the cycle begins anew.

We are at the same step here with the Revolution. Imagine for a moment that things go as they did, and Nintendo was not an innovator. There would be no videogames after a couple of generations. THAT is why the Revolution is so crucial to the further development and expansion of the gaming industry.

Gaming is not innovation, you know. Sony and Microsoft consider gaming to be graphics. They go as far as to call this generation "The HD Era". Nintendo, on the other hand, sees gaming as a different thing. It's just that Nintendo goes at a faster pace than the competition... Nintendo was all about graphics with the SNES, their main highlight was how powerful the system was.

And Sony will DEFINITELY fall out at this pace. A $500 console? Next-next generation, if they'll still be in gaming, and be as interested in graphics as they are now, the system will cost even more. They're done. That is, if they continue in this manner.

Playing the same stuff over and over again... If I was with Microsoft, I think I'd be tired of the same thing by around Halo 5. That's when the gaming industry will collapse... That is, if Nintendo's not there.

Also, reffering to your question, Sporge... I believe that Virtual Reality is next-next-gen's highlight. Nintendo already bought virtual reality helmets from a company that showed them off at CES, you can check that at IGN for yourself. VR is the future, in my opinion, and if Nintendo is looking to immerse the player into the game, then virtual reality is perfect.

But, in short, this is not a battle between Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony... This is a battle between the "Touch Generation" and the "HD Era". Two against one... Not quite fair, is it? But the customers will decide the victor...

And, to think, both Microsoft and Sony are relying on third parties for their videogames... Where's the truth in that? If they're so conscious about the status of the gaming industry, then maybe they can make some games that back up all of their statements? Nintendo is working on that with Zelda, Animal Crossing, Mario, Fire Emblem, Earthbound, Metroid, Pikmin, and TONS more!

And, heh, Blue-Ray is dead. It's too expensive... Square-Enix has already hinted at making Final Fantasy a game for all three next-gen consoles... That's how expensive Blue-Ray is.

hmm...

well, i heard the PS3 will be 400$, that will be a blow to them... but Sony is made of cash... they can draw from other funds to keep them afloat for awhile... aswell as Microsoft... and according to a friend of mine, Nintendo has quite a bit of money to sit on aswell... they're still using the reserves from the NES... they're really smart with their money, so that wouldn't really be an issue.


Microsoft still has a couple titles that would interest people... while yes, halo will be ending, Fable is still there... thats about it that i can think of though.

oh, and to keep sporge happy, i dont think they'll use virtual reality yet... they'll hold that off for about 3 generations from now... they can't jump from the revolution to some headset... technology isn't quite there yet, while yes, you COULD make a headset like that, it would be big, bulky, and expensive... they'd need to wait awhile to make it cheap, lightweight, and actually look nice...

as for the next-next generation... i think nintendo will slowly lean tward Virtual Reality... maybe having something similar to the Revolution, but different in a few ways... i can't really tell now, because i dont know what the revolution can fully do.

Well the Revo is posed to go along with another system (someone said that I remeber). Third parties are prasing the controller and Nintendo will have SSB,LoZ, and Metroid. Nintendo is hard to beat this upcoming generation.

I think Nintendo has always done a good job of using what a system has to offer while it has been shown before how sony shows what they say are the graphics but end up being prerendeed. Now I don't mean that graphics are the only thing that matter but they are a definate factor. that is one thing Nintendo is doing that the others haven't gone into yet, improving gameplay. Sony and MS both keep the same games around that where on N64 mainly the FPS games. While a few come out tht are new and fun, (like katamari, an extremely weird but fun game), most games are like one previous to it.

Now I wish to state again that this isn't what I meant to be debating but it seems everyone here wants to, soooo :jay:

Ohh and to Bul about the 2 against one thing , this actually favors Nintendo because while Sony and MS fight for the same crowd nintendo will get a different one. Not to mention how the PS3 and 360 are so similar very few who buy only 2 systems will get both of those because they are so similar and more expensive. Nintendo will gain a lot from those who want a second system because of the price and how it is different.
