I just started playing Animal Crossing New Leaf and I have a question for all the experienced players for the game: What would you have liked to know when you first started playing the game?
I keep learning new things about the game and I want to learn some more. Also I don't have any friends at all that play Animal Crossing New Leaf (or have a working 3DS or DS) so I would also like to add some new players on my friend list! I don't know how to add people on Animal Crossing, so if possible can someone explain?

I wish I knew about plot resetting in my first town. One of my dreamies planted her house right in front of the town hall, and it was a nightmare to landscape. Trust me, plot resetting is worth the time and effort. If you want to learn how, YouTube has plenty of videos on it.

Buy tools and either save your first perfect fruit, or plant it where someone wont put their house on it.

Hm let's see....

• You can stack fruits in your inventory by pulling them over each other.
• You can also stack money
• You can see on the board outside the museum what you already donated. It's great to check if you missed to donate any fish/insect you already caught.
• You can get items by shaking trees (but also bees/wasps)
• I never tested it but apparently you won't have bees fall from you trees if you open your town gates first.
• You make the most money by catching ocean fish and palm-tree bugs on summer evenings/nights or on the island.
• Turnip prices develop based on certain patters so it's possible to cut some losses if you can figure out which pattern you have. There are websites for this:stalk market wizard
• Each version of a tool besides the normal one should have a different function which is more or less useful. For example: hitting a money-rock with a silver shovel has a chance of giving you gems instead of bells.
• Each player character can hold 10 designs but you can store a LOT more with Mabel. Just those will not display in your town. You can only have 40 different designs in your town if you have 4 characters.
• The town flag doesn't need a save slot in your inventory. So if you set the town flag, you can save that design with Mabel and delete it from your inventory, but the flag won't be affected unless you manually change it to something else. ^^
• Like the others said ...learn plot resetting, it will save you soooo much trouble.
• Take most new items you get to Cyrus and see if he can customize them. You will be surprised how many items in this game can be customized!
• You can keep a bunch of old- or just empty letters in your inventory and use that to store items. For example: if your tools take up too much space, buy letter paper and write a few letters to yourself (or anyone) and place them in the letter-storage if your inventory. Now you drag your tools in and the letter will appear with a present-symbol. When you need the tool, just click in the letter and select "remove present".
• The same can be done in the big letter storage. If you ever run out of storage for items, put the ones you rarely need into letters and save those in the storage.
• Redd always has 1 real painting/statue and 3 fakes. If you happen know the real-life versions you can spot the difference, but there are guides with pictures online.
• More than one of a "real" piece of art exists, don't ask me how that makes sense... But at least you don't have to worry whether you like the fake or the real version of a piece of art and would like it in your house - you can find multiple of each in the game so feel free to give the first one to the museum^^
• If you like to collect items... I advise you track down the guidebook or download an app while you are still starting. If you ever decide to do it later, it will take hours to put every item in your catalogue into a guidebook/app.
• I recommend you register your items in a spechial catalogue at MoriDB. That site is super helpful for making your own item lists and knowing what you have and what's on your wish list will make trading soooo much easier.
• Hold back on placing the permanent Public works projects like the cafe or the police station (look up which others are permanent). Only place them when you know how you want your town layed out and have done quite a bit of landscaping. Many people place these buildings early and then get frustrated because they can't be removed anymore and they don't fit the layout they were going for...

That's all what came to my mind so quickly, I will be back if I can think of more that I missed.

I had no idea you could just delete a character, the reason I reset my first town of lilac, it was because I hated my mayors face lol
