Welcome to the official New Leaf Tips and Tricks Master Thread! Here, I will post new tips and tricks! Let's get started!

  • Silver shovel: After building the second floor of the museum and donating 15 fossils, you can buy it from the museum shop. When you strike a money rock with the silver shovel, it sometimes produces ores instead of Bells.
  • Gold shovel: Buy 50 fertilisers from the Garden Shop (they can only be bought once you upgrade the Nooklings' shop to TIY) then talk to Leif to be given the gold shovel. It can be used to plant money trees.
  • Silver axe: You can buy this from the island shop for eight medals, but it only appears on rare occasions. It's more durable than a normal axe and always creates a rare stump pattern when you cut down a tree.
  • Gold axe: Buy 50 tree saplings from the Garden Shop then talk to Leif to be given the gold axe. It never breaks and can cut down trees faster.
  • Silver net: Buy it from the second floor of the museum after donating 30 bugs. It's got a wider capture range than a normal net.
  • Gold net:Talk to the bug catching tournament host after catching every bug type in the game. It's got an even wider capture range.
  • Silver fishing rod: Buy it from the second floor of the museum after donating 30 fish. Fish are more likely to bite with it and will bite for longer.
  • Gold fishing rod: Talk to the fishing tournament host after catching every bug type in the game. Fish are even more likely to bite and bite for even longer.
  • Silver watering can: Buy 50 flower seeds from the Garden Shop then talk to Leif to be given the silver watering can. It's got a wider watering range than the normal one.
  • Gold watering can: Talk to Isabelle after keeping 'perfect town' status for 15 days. It's got an even wider watering range and let's you create gold roses by watering a wilted black rose.
  • Silver slingshot: On rare occasions you'll see a balloon floating by with two silver balloons attached. Shoot it down with the slingshot to get the silver one, which fires two shots at once.
  • Gold slingshot: After getting the silver one, on rare occasions you'll see a balloon floating by with three gold balloons attached. Shoot it down to get the gold slingshot, which fires three shots at once.

When you first start your day as mayor in the winter, your probably wondering how am I gonna get quick bells? The Snowman can help you there! Build her and she'll ask you to bring her snowflakes (The number of snowflakes needed to give to the Snowman depends on how you build her) Catch the snowflakes and return to her and give them to her, you'll get one of the Ice set that sells for 8,888 bells. You can do it as many times as you want and get big bells! This trick is perfect for those who started their town in winter.

If a villager says either a rumor about themselves or a warning about rumors, it means nobody is moving out.
Start a new character when a villager is moving in. If you don't like it, restart the game. If you do, finish the creation process and then delete the character. This is very abbreviated, if you want to add more, knock yourself out.
Always sell at Re-Tail, never at Nook's. Nook's buys only at 80% of the normal price.

Use big public works projects like the fence/fountain to prevent villagers from moving in areas you might have reserved for another future project or on hybrids (the fence). Also is useful for plot resetting if you place the project the day before to limit some of the space a villager will try and place their plot (in front of the town hall, plaza, Re-Tail, bridges etc)

The day after the campsite is first built, there will always be a villager camping. You can exploit this for much easier camp site resetting, as there will always be a villager in the campsite during each reset!

Epic! You also forgot to mention that the gold watering can allows you to create gold roses after breeding black roses with two red ones.

Tip or Trick: The Endless Bug Trick
The Tip/Trick:You will need a net for this trick. Your town will also have to be in the summer because it has to be on your beach! Take your net out and go to the grey block next to your Station that is to the right of the building and to the left of the crossing stick. Press and hold A (crawl) and go as slow as possible. You will slowly merge on top of the block and you will be on the Train Tracks. Then you will go to the Red Bridge (It shows which way it is on the map). Then you will want to still have your net out, go to the end of the bridge and do the crawling thing until you fall onto the rock. You will now be in the Abyss. Walk DOWN until you cant see the ocean. Then crawl when you cant see the ocean. Find the beach (You will be invisible but you'll see your foot prints where you currently are) and find a palm tree with a rare beetle on it. Swing your net and catch it, after it goes in your pocket swing over and over. Soon your pocket will be full with rare beetles that you can sell! It doesnt take long c:

The "trick" to knowing when a villager is moving is slightly off. Villagers can still tell rumors about themselves or warn of them if they're the ones tagged to move out. It's always best to check with two villagers at once. If both of them give you the general rumor talk, then nobody is moving out.
It's also best to check every 3 days. Villagers can ping to move in as little as 1 day, or as many as 5 days. Checking every 3 will allow you to prevent any tagged villagers from moving.

For the plot reset trick, it should be noted as well that days start at 6am. So if you adopt a villager one day and you want to plot reset them the next, set your clock for the next day at 5:57am, save and quit, and wait a few minutes. Then start with making a new characters, checking plots, etc.

Also, as to where to sell... I'm 95% sure Reese straight up mentions in the game that she buys stuff at a higher price than Timmy and Tommy do.

Oooh, I think this is a really good idea! It can definitely help any ACNL newbies. :)

Where did you get this information from?: Personal experience (I've used it in all 5 of my previous towns) and it also worked for my other friends 100% of the time

Also, I'm just going to leave these here.

As far as I can tell and what I've seen, all of this information is correct. I could be wrong, though, so there may also be some incorrect information. I hope this can help, too.

The Tip or Trick: The Duplication Trick

How it works: Get a friend to open there gates, then you will grab whatever you want to double. Go to there town and drop them on the ground. Have your friend save and quit. After the saving circles 1 loop flip the WiFi switch. If it works you should have the items in your pocket and at the friends town. If it doesnt work (if its only at there town) visit their town and pick up the items. Have your friend save, then drop the items down and repeat the whole end the party thing until you get it!

Would you like your name on it: Yes please, my username

Where did you get the info? I have gotten it from a friend and I have tried it myself

I'm not going to use this due to it being an exploit to get extra items and that is against the TBT forum rules.

p.s. thanks for making this super cool thread!

A lot of these things exploit stuff too~
Just saying//

Like how to get a villager where you want.
Or all the cheats~

exploits (in my opinion) is getting duplicated items or things like that. getting things where you want them isn't exactly an exploit.

It doesn't matter if it's a hole in the coding or not. It's against the rules. Just because something exists doesn't mean you can discuss it.
