not sure if i can make one of these threads but
What I'm referring to is this. It's intriguing to see that this allows us to literally take control of our town like we should since we are mayors and all, but is it kinda risky? It seems a bit similar to the Pokemon hacking exploit where you launch the 3DS camera and align it with the QR code that takes you to the injector, which crashes and successfully loads the hacked Pokemon into your game. I might like to try it out (not for bad purposes) but I'm also kind of concerned that it might corrupt my town.

I have 2 physical copies, but if any of you guys have tried this with multiple towns in one 3DS console...
- If I modified something on one cartridge, will it affect the other cartridge?
- Am I able to undo what I did? (Probably something to do with the acnldump 'backup' file?)
- Will I risk corruption?

And has anyone tried this out? I've seen a few people modify their games on Tumblr, such as cloning the same villager 10 times, or putting their Town Hall, Re-Tail and Police Station in one row, etc.

Sorry, but we're really not allowed to discuss modding or hacking here. It's against the rules. Tumblr has no problem with it, so I'd probably take the discussion over there. There's a ton of people who can help answer your questions and concerns about it too. (:

In my opinion, I think it's great since the game has been out for awhile and it doesn't seem unfair at this point (as if, if it came out near the release date, that would've been upsetting), but I only use it for some aesthetic effect rather than giving myself a ton of money or items or even villagers. The game would just become boring if you had nothing to work for anymore.

Same with the Pokemon hacking, but I'm not really on board with that one. It doesn't seem right to me that some people spend quality time breeding whilst someone else can make a Pokemon in a minute flat, but that's just me... and off topic. All in all, it's safe. Just frowned upon.

It is very interesting. I haven't tried it because I don't have a working computer so I'm not sure if my advice will be of any use but basically, with any hacking, there is always a risk for corruption if you enter in something wrong. It's normally a small risk as long as you follow the step by step instructions of what to do, but it's still there. I haven't seen anyone use that and talk about their game corrupting yet though, but it is still sort of a new program I think.

I don't think it would affect anything but the save file/game cartridge you are editing. Your other game would be safe as long as you don't use the editor on it I believe.

I am not sure about the back up stuff. I would guess yes, but I would have to look more into it to be certain.

I found this link though and it has a pretty decent explanation about dumping files, if you would like to check it out. If you use tumblr you could ask them any other questions you have possibly too. http://descrossing.tumblr.com/post/114022432917/how-to-dump-and-inject-acnl-ram-files

I'm sorry but your not allowed to discuss Hacking on this site as it is against the rules:

Do not post any content that contains or promotes the following:

Violence, racism, terrorism, or other obscene content
Hacking information, viruses, or harmful computer software
Pornography, nudity, or sexual material
Selling or trading virtual goods/services, including Animal Crossing items and villagers, for real world currency

We can't really talk about hacking on the forum or give very specific advice, sorry. I personally wouldn't try this out (even though I don't care if people do it within their own games) since I like the challenge of unlocking stuff and working with the constraints in my town.

I think that, in theory, if one of your cartridges corrupts, it shouldn't affect the other one. I don't know how that would work out with the data saved to the SD card but it makes more sense that only one of the games would be affected. People who have multiple copies and one of their town corrupts don't typically mention all of their towns corrupting at the same time.

I don't know if that method makes your town more likely to corrupt or not. I'd guess that's always a risk when you're doing something that significantly changes your game and doesn't have the same sort of control that a legit game does (like consumers complaining and the like) but maybe you can see if it's happened to anyone and decide for yourself.
