New Leaf doubled sales of 3DS in Japan?

I bought mine this June but not just for Animal crossing. I'm a big Nintendo fan and there's lots of games I still don't own yet but I own a few. I need a job.

I don't own any 3DS games. I want my first 3DS game to be Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Is that stupid? It's very cool how just one game could be so popular in a country that it could affect the sales of a console so much! I knew AC was popular in Japan, but not this popular! Now if only Animal Crossing could be this popular in the US.... I wish!
