After a 3 year break from actively playing AC, I reset my town and started again! It was a bit hard to decide to destroy my original 2013 town, but I felt like I couldn't get back into it anymore. I really want a town I can enjoy as I'm trying to get back into AC to give myself a hobby, since I've been kinda aimless and depressed for the last two months. So, the town of Cacturne was born!

My first day has proved that I'm apparently an AC noob after not playing for three years. I:
-somehow picked the wrong face even though I was using a face guide
-wandered around for half an hour trying to find villagers to talk to before realizing it was 7am so everyone except Rhonda was sleeping
-dug up a mole cricket and then realized I didn't have a net to catch it!

But I'm really hoping I can fall in love with the game again and become more active in the AC section of the forum. If anyone has tips on how to make the most out of the game that would be appreciated!

I was like you, I had played NL, well AC in general, for years, but then took about a 4 year break when I went a period of time without a DS. Then last month got a New 3DS XL and NL again. So I had to remember/re-learn a few things also. I messed up more than a few times. LOL! I do hope you fall back in love with is as much as before. I know I have. And even though letting go of a long held town was hard, a fresh start was prob a great call. I have really been enjoying building up my town, BayRidge. I only wish I had used the face guide when starting up, I didn't, but it's nothing I can't live with. That was my first mistake, but I didn't try again because I got a town layout I really liked. Did you find your piece of perfect fruit? Don't forget to replant that to build up your perfect fruit trees! Oh also, don't forget if you are one to time travel even a few hours at times, doing it if you have bought turnips from Joan when she was there on Sundays for the Stalk Market thing, will kill them. Have fun!

I'm in the reset process myself, so I know the feel. I've been doing some reading and refreshing myself on the ins and outs in the past few hours, I recommend doing so a bit yourself! There's a lot of little things that I completely forgot about!

I used the Thonky face guide for my second character which has drawings instead of screenshots and the drawing for my face was much cuter than the reality. I got one of the very wide open eyes faces and kind of hate it. At one point I was going to make her an alien and have her house be all science themed but then I decided to go rustic.

Thanks for the advice! I'm already glad I've decided to reset, walking around an empty town is making me excited! I haven't found the first piece of perfect fruit yet but I am on the lookout! I remember I wasted it in my first town.

Thanks, I'm definitely going to read a bit! I've clearly forgotten some things too

Oh nooo lol, I was mad I got the wrong face first but thankfully it's not too bad so I'm getting used to it! I couldn't be bothered to reset because I liked my town layout.

Yup yup, in one of my towns when I started new there, I dug up a mole cricket not realizing 'hey, this character is only like half an hour old she doesnt have a net'. I find it odd when I have to look up stuff like how to unlock museum upgrades or the Roost since I've played for so many years. But it's not like I've played all 6 years new
I was also in the same position as you, I restarted my 2013 town after literally years of game play and effort. But I don't regret it.

I hope you enjoy playing your new town! It's definitely exciting to walk through an empty town and see the potential it has. Of course the key is to stick with it long enough for that potential to be realized. I was in the same boat as you a while back. My old town no longer interested me, so I came to the decision to reset. That was one of the best decisions I made in Animal Crossing.

Also, if you have the means to, perhaps upload a few pictures? I'm sure people would appreciate being able to see what the town looks like, especially its map.

I'm also in reset mode. There are already certain aspects of this file that I like more than my old one, like my mayor's face.

Thanks for your comments everyone! Here's a picture of Cacturne's map:

I like having my town plaza in the top right corner, and I like that there's one long beach + a secret beach as well.

Here are a couple bonus pictures!

Sorry they're bad quality, I just took them on my phone.

My starter villagers are Joey, Blanche, Chrissy, Kabuki and Rhonda! Not too bad at all. I'm not a fan of Chrissy but I like Joey and Blanche, and Rhonda was one of my starters in my first ever Wild World town so that's cool!

Cool map! I like how your ponds are divided by the river. My new map also has two ponds, but my river is vertical. I like how it's divided up; the river is to the right and my plaza tree is to the left. It looks pretty cool and gives me lots of room for pwps.

Oh, congratulations on getting the beach ramp below the Town Hall! It's actually quite rare for that type to generate. I think it looks really nice so I hope you enjoy it as well.

That's a nice map! I like the river shape and where you placed your house. I'm also a fan of having the event plaza tucked away in a corner.

Good luck with your new town!

Thank you! I'm happy with my map and pretty excited :)

Agreed, that's a nice map, the river esp. I like how it doesn't have crazy curves or large awkward holding ponds. There's also plenty of places to put bridges without them being in the way of other things.

i did the same thing with my town! haven't played in months, but wanting to get back to it required that i reset everything. i definetely have some goals i want to accomplish such as growing the plaza tree (never got it fully grown), earning badges, unlocking all shops and upgrades, etc. i almost completed the fossil collection at the museum, but i'm missing only one more fossil!

if you want to get back in the groove of things, you could try breeding some flowers, or fillig out the encyclopedia, or work to get a perfect town.
