New 3DS wifi concern

I bought a New 3DS recently and yesterday was the first time I noticed that you cannot go back to the home screen while you have your gate opened in your town. I liked the fact that there was a toggle on my previous 3DS that I could flip to interrupt the connection if someone started messing with my town (not that it has happened to me) and not have to worry about resetting and losing data but now that option is not available as my town in a digital copy and I can't swap it to my old 3DS.

Has anyone had these problems before and actually cut the wifi connection to stop something or someone from doing something in their town or is it really not a big issue? I feel like the majority of the community is really cool and it shouldn't be too big of a problem.

Yes, but that option is somewhat limited because you can't cut the connection while the game is saving with the power button because that is an easy way to corrupt your own game which would suck.

I've had to flip the wifi switch tons of times. From being trapped on Club Tortimer to someone coming in my town when I was expecting someone else and stealing my flowers, I couldn't imagine playing ACNL online without one.

The problem is if the other person attempts to save, you risk corrupting your file by powering off while saving. You could power off while the message scrolls across the top of the screen telling you that the game is about to save, but if you are a second or two late, you could end up powering off while the game is actually saving. As far as I know, there is no risk to just flipping the wifi switch while saving, so the fact that you have to turn the power off on the new 3DS means that you have to be extra careful if you are playing with people you do not 100% trust.

As for the thread starter's question, I've never had to flip the wifi switch when playing with anyone I've met on these forums. The vast majority of people here behave themselves, but unfortunately it only takes one bad apple to do some serious damage to your town. I would be very careful about playing with people who do not have a high positive feedback rating if I were you since you don't have the wifi switch available.

The game continues, even on wi-fi, unfortunately. That doesn't stop somebody from destroying the town.

But on this topic, the only fool-proof way is turning of the router and turning it back on, but it's a huge problem if you have family or people living with you who use the internet.

That's actually pretty interesting; every other game I've played breaks the wi-fi link immediately when you close the lid.
