neko's art [taking requests]

Hey, what program are you using? I ask because 100% the best thing about having a tablet is pen pressure and most art programs you should be able to turn the setting on so you can get thicker lines when you press down harder. It really helps make drawings look more natural.

I'm using MyPaint. I do have the setting on (for pen pressure) but I'm not the best at using it. Also, I'm a little stuck about colouring things in.

I drew Pikachu, but I think it came out a little weird. Sorry.

Ah, I see now! Once you get used to the program I'm sure your drawings will look better ^^ Personally, I use a large brush size and a very small 'minimum size' for the pen pressure, it gives a lot more variety in line width. And you can colour large areas more easily with a larger brush size ^^

I'm not too sure what brushes to use for hair and skin tone; whenever I try colouring that in, it looks really strange.

I just got my tablet like 3 weeks ago so I can understand heh. It took me about a week until I was completely comfortable with it. I highly recommend paint tool sai. It makes lineart so easy and smooth, like I can't imagine trying to use anything else. Your art is rly cute, keep it up!

Thanks for the advice! ^^

Could you give me any tips on colouring?

Layers. Lot of em. Color underneath the lineart as well. I really can't explain shading, I guess I just cell shade and blend it til it looks alright? It really is dependent on the program you use and your brush settings! Sorry i'm terrible at advice orzzzz

Also, which type of brush should I use?

For lineart you need a pretty hard brush like a paintbrush or marker ^^ For shading try using a really soft brush like an airbrush in combination with a harder brush like a paintbrush, blurred out and blended with a blending tool.

I use photoshop, I've never used Mypaint, and i was going to suggest using pressure settings, but I guess someone has already suggested it.

Maybe you should try practicing line strokes and see how they look like, just like straight lines or wavy line or zig zag, whatever. That is an exercise I did on the first day of drawing class.

Thank you guys! ^-^

You've all been really helpful.

What should I use for colouring?
