Hi, guys. I haven't played ACNL is 4 months, and I was wondering if anyone could have moved over that time period... I don't want to lose any of my villagers, so would it be safest to TT to the time that I last played and continue to TT until the current date? What would be the safest TT method if I were to do so? Thanks for the help. :)

If the last time you've played had you successfully convinced a villager to stay in your town, then it's safe to play without any TTing whatsoever.

Otherwise, you'll want to TT back when you've last played. You can check the Activity Log app from your HOME Menu to seek for that date.
Once you set the date like I said so (via in-game or System Settings), talk to every villager multiple times to find out who's planning to move. Manage to convince him/her to stay in your town, and you should be safe to jump back to the current date without having a villager moving out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought once a villager moves out, time traveling backwards won't do a thing?

Well anyways, one way I can recommend safely checking to see if villages have moved is simply creating a new character (you have space to make another character) and just check around town to see if anyone's moved. If someone has moved, turn the game off without saving and try what TheBigJC7 said, and if no one moved out just choose a house plot for the new character and go through the whole process of moving in, so you can ensure no one moved out.

Thank both of you for your help. I wish I could help with your question, but I'm not sure... I think a villager can still move even by TT backwards, but again, I'm unsure. Hope you find your answer! :)

Just tried the BigJc7's method, and it worked like a charm, thanks again! :)

It's true that you can't do anything to get the moving villager back once he/she packed things and/or already moved out. One thing you need to know is that if you TTed a day forward or backward, the game will count as one day passed. For example, on December 20th, if you TT backward a day while the villager has said he will move on December 26th, it'll subtract that date to December 25th.
However, the topic creator still have a chance to keep all of her villagers intact even if she didn't technically played the game for 4 months, as long as she TT back to date she last played the game and managed to convince the moving villager to stay.

The maximum number of a villager moving away from your town at a moment will be always ONE regardless on how far you TT your game. Keep in mind that the moving villager will be determined the day after you've successfully convinced any villager to not move out, whether you're aware of that or not. That's why the game won't make any villager move out if you just TT back to the current date (or whatever date you wish) once you've finally convinced one to not move away.

The safest thing to do, is to not load a character, start a new character, check if anyone's moved or in boxes. If everyone's fine then close software and load up. If someone is gone then change the date on the ds clock back a month or two, then repeat. Once everyone is fine, load and carefully travel day by day to the present.

If that doesn't make sense, then here's my example. I hadn't played in a 3 months, so I started a new character, looked around and found Lolly's house gone. I closed the software without saving, changed the time back a month in the 3ds clock and started a new character, Lolly's house was back and no one was in boxes so I closed the software and loaded up my mayor. I went around town and Lolly pinged me, saying she wanted to leave. I refused, and she's been here ever since :) hope I helped as this is a fool proof way to check that no one has moved
