I'm working on a project for school, about Petra that city in Jordan, you know what i mean .
never heard of it? click here

but i've read some other sites also about the Nabataeans and they say; Its inhabitants grew wealthy by imposing taxes on goods which passed through the city and in return offered protection from marauding tribes.
what are marauding tribes? people that tried to attack 'em or something?
because i've looked it up and i can't find it :gyroidconfused:

if you have any idea, post it please :)

hmm, okay
i see what you're getting at :O
i thought it might've been a well-known term or something that i didn't know about ..
i think "marauding tribes" are tribes who want to take over their position as the best
excuse me for the last sentence, didn't knew any other way to put it :P

yep, i've noticed :gyroidconfused:
i think i'll stick with the meaning; tribes who wanted to attack the Nebataeans so that they could become the most important when it comes to trade, politics, religion and politics

or if someone actually knows what it means i'll take his/her meaning :)

I know!!! :)

Marauding means like attacking, plundering, stealing, etc.

So the sentence says 'protection marauding tribes' means that the city would be safe from other tribes stealing all their goods and products.

Hope that helped Rene!!

Dictionary, much? xD[/quote]are you saying that i got that from the dictionary?
or telling her to use the dictionary?

haha actually surprisingly I didn't have to use the dictionary. I have had that as a vocab word before so I already new what it meant. :veryhappy:

SuperKKSlider and I guessed right so yeah handy that it had been confirmed by you :)

and it isn't in my dictionary anyway, i have alot of dictionaries but most of them are Zealandic, Frysk, Zuid-Gelders you know, the more difficult languages to understand
English isn't that hard, with exception for some words ..

I wonder how many of you can talk more than 4 languages fluently :r
