Need advice

Long story short, my switch had to be reset, and I lost my original island despite my save being backed up (started on the day it came out, never reset my island or anything). When I had to restart, I had significantly less motivation to play the game and get back into it daily. I haven't played since before the most recent update, with the hotels and everything.

I want to get back to playing, but it feels incredibly daunting to start over, and now with additional content to do as well. My question is, do you think it's worth it? I still feel a bit sad when I think of how much I lost from my old island, and how much time it took to get it the way I wanted it to be, with my ideal villagers and whatnot. I've been playing new leaf lately instead, but I've pretty much done everything for my town there, minus a few bugs I still need to catch. I miss new horizons, but it seems like so much work now...

Oh no, I'm so sorry that you’ve lost your save. I would be devastated. I also started on launch day, had only one island with hundreds of hours, and I'm so attached to it that I can't even imagine it being gone forever.

I think you can try starting over just to see how it will turn out. It sounds like you don't have much to lose now? And I'm sure people will help you get the stuff you'll need! To be fair the last update doesn't have that much new content, but it has some great quality of life improvements. If from the very beginning I could craft without needing to have all the items in my pocket, I can say with certainty that my playstyle would be different. It is now. So it might be a new experience for you too.

I honestly don't remember, I think there was an issue with my switch online membership at the time?? I couldn't restore my save when I started the game up, there was an error that showed up instead.
