What do you guys think of natural paths (i.e. where you run in a particular spot till it's just dirt)? Do you like them? Think they're messy? Are they really hard to maintain?

I'm thinking of removing all my tiled paths and just having dirt, and I wanted your thoughts xD

Go for it! I think it looks really good, mainly because it shows how much effort you have put in.
I don't have enough motivation to run around everyday but if I could be bothered I'd definitely have dirt paths myself.

Many people seem to think they're too much effort but if it was me I'd def at least try. If you end up thinking it's too bothersome, you can always go back to using pattern paths. Or maybe you could consider making dirt paths in just a part of your town. Either way, personally I love dirt paths and think they look great! Good luck if you end up attempting them.

I think dirt paths look absolutely wonderful and you should definitely go for them. I personally don't know if they're hard to maintain but they probably are because you need to make sure you run on them everyday so the grass doesn't grow back. If you want really thick paths you could always just plop down a new playable character's house to get rid of the grass, delete them, and then repeat the process.

I removed my tile paths a couple of days ago, and instead I'm going to make it clear where my paths are by using natural fences, like bushes, trees and flowers. I don't think I want to have natural dirt paths, just a natural way of seeing where you're meant to walk.

I think they look fantastic! However, if you're not committed to making them and maintaining them, I would advise against trying. My boyfriend had dirt paths and he spent a lot of time keeping them alive.

My town is pretty heavily landscaped so I have a set path that I walk on through my town, which makes it easy to maintain my dirt paths :3 I cover my dirt paths with clovers, and I really like the way it looks. There's no harm in trying them out, so go for it. Worst case, you put your path designs back down.

I love them. The only reason I don't have them in my own town is because I just couldn't wear the grass down fast enough before it regenerated itself :( I've looked for natural looking path qr codes and use one on the right side of my town. Not the same as having actual dirt paths though :(

They really look great, but they're really hard to upkeep. It takes a lot of time and patience and consistency.

i love them! i'd definitely like to have them but they're too hard to maintain for me, but if you're able to put in the work i'd go for it!

For everyone struggling with maintaining dirt paths, make a set path through your town and walk (or run) only on it. Have it lead to Retail, your plaza, train station, cafe, villagers' houses and anywhere else you regularly go. You can mark it using clovers like I did, or by using a temporary path design until the grass starts to wear down.

If you don't feel like buying tons of clovers, or laying down a path design, you can always make a walkway lined with flowers, trees, tree stumps, bushes, bamboo or a combination of any of those.

If you make a point to stick to the path you make, dirt paths aren't hard to maintain and you don't have to spend hours playing to keep them.

I personally prefer natural dirt paths rather than patterns. I think they look extremely beautiful!! Even if you can't have the dirt stay as dirt, you could always use bushes and trees as a "border." I think that still looks great! You could include clovers too.

If they are actually well done, they look quite nice in my opinion :)

But I won't have them in my own town. I'm already pretty disheartened but the three or four big patches that won't ever grow any grass, because they look ugly no matter how many flowers you put on them :(

Yeah I started looking into it seriously and it's waaayyyy more effort than I thought D: I mean, I play every day but I don't know if I can dedicate myself to that. I'd also be really concerned about them spreading wider than they're meant to be :/

Guess I'll be sticking to design paths for now...

i like them and admire people who are able to maintain them
but i prefer making my own patterns and setting them down so i dont have to worry about constantly running over my paths to maintain them lol

My town theme is somewhat modern so I use paths. My other towns don't have a theme as of yet but they to contain paths. I personally prefer tile paths to natural paths. ;)
