Natural dirt paths

I'm starting to lean towards natural dirt paths instead of patterns. Wanting my town to have a natural woodlen look but I'm wanting to know how long dirt paths take to make? Ive marked out where I want the paths to be using flowers at both sides, I'm constantly running but there's nothing happebing. Been doing it for just over a week now. Am I doing something wrong? If only there was a tool to use -.-
