I got five items from Nat during the Bug-Off. One of them was a barber's pole.

Is this suppose to happen? I thought he only gave bug related furniture.

I think if you break the record but you're still below 80, he gives you a random item.

Whenever you break the record, you get items. To get items from the Bug series, you need to break the record with a score that is above 80. If you break the record with something less than that, you'll get a reorderable item.

For example, if the record is 35 and you break it with a bug worth 50 points, you'll get a random item. If you break it with a bug worth 82 points, you'll get a Bug Series item.

Keep in mind that the bug's base value can change depending on the stuff Nat evaluates for you. You can give him a rare bug and get a low score, or get a high score with a more common one, depending on those factors. What I personally did was save before giving him a rare bug (since those scores are random) so I could reset if it was ridiculously low or if I got an item I hated. You can also reset the record by TTing back, it'll be a low score by one of your villagers so you can give him another bug and get another item. :)

Also, even if you give him a bug that scores over 80, you still have to beat the record for him to give you something. Which means if you give him a bug and he scores it a perfect 100, you can't get any more items from him after that since you can't break a perfect record.

I made the mistake of giving him a perfect 100 bug first, and only being able to get one item from him. Never doing that again. >_>

You can TT backwards by any amount of time to reset the record. Just save and quit after he gives you your item, TT back (even a few minutes work, I think) and when you ask him about the current record, it'll be a random villager instead with a low record, instead of your last one, so you can give him more bugs and break the record over and over again.

If you go to another person's town for the bug-off you can get furniture for beating the record, but your bugs don't count to set the record. I went to another town early in the day, and got items for all my bugs.

Also, 100 is not the highest. It is the highest *base* number of points, but then they are adjusted for size, color, etc. My highest was 135 points.
