My town is Corrupt - only at the Post Office

Has this happened to you?

Story time: My oldest ACNL town is over a year old but I hadn't been to that town for months.

I loaded it up a few days ago, and now my main character can not use the post office. It's so strange.

I can receive mail in my mailbox, but I can not access my saved letters, nor can I save any letters.

It gives me an error message something like "this data is corrupted". I quickly exit the game and so far I'm safe. I can still play in the town but I can't ask Pelly for anything.

This is my oldest town - I have the Emporium. I have so much unlocked. The town is a total WIP but it's my little forest village.

I am so sad. I've never seen anyone else post about this.

P.S. No, I don't hack. Never have.

But maybe as long as you avoid the post office, things will be okay? I mean, is not being able to send/save mail the only thing you're unable to do?

Yeah - as much as I can tell as long as I don't talk to Pelly or Phyllis I'm ok. But I can not save any letters or mail any letters.

I don't know if any other parts of my game are corrupt; so far its just the mail. I guess that is liveable ya know?

I have heard of some weird things happening to people who visit hacked dream towns but I've never visited any hacked dream towns or IRL towns with any of the characters in this town.

I don't know how much we're allowed to say about hacking on here*, but I'll just say that a hacked dream town would not have done this to your town.

*What I mean is, I know we can't discuss how to hack, or praise hacking, or sell/trade hacked items, etc., but it seems allowed to mention it vaguely...? So I'm being vague, but the answer is no.

The file where saved letters are stored corrupted. I belive it's called mail1.dat or something like that(the number changes depending on the player character, with the mayor always having #1).

There's nothing you can do I'm afraid.

Maybe try deleting your town and restarting? D;

I've never heard of this either, but hopefully it's just the saved mail you can't access, and not something worse. While it sucks you can't look back at sentimental letters, you're right--it's liveable. Corrupted data is an AC player's worst nightmare, and I'm terribly sorry that even a chip of corruption got wedged in your game files. :c

Like said above, the place where your mail is stored is probably corrupt. It could be a fault in the game too.

So sorry that happened to you :c The only way to get rid of it and use the post office properly is if you restart your town which I bet you don't want to do.. If you can live without the post office though, by all means and play normally without it.~~
