my stupid character is tanning

You wouldn't be able to take the parasol onto the island. But if you wear a hat then it goes with you, since it's already on your body. Do you guys know about Liquefy's list of hats that prevent tanning? It's a long doc, but do a search for "Tanning" and it'll take you to the right section.

Ah, super helpful! I remembered reading it, but then couldn't find it again. Thanks. c:

My tan went away pretty fast & I had gone completely dark. You should be a lot more pale in just a few days.

...and we don't want any sort of skin color because...?

It's just a tan. It's not like you've suddenly become an entirely different person or anything.

Aw yeah eternal parasol carrier here.

It is really hard to make myself look pale when I have white hair aa.

given the fact that the faces option in this is fairly limited and most likely looks nothing like ourselves in real life skin color is the only other thing that we have to really identify ourselves

plus it's unrealistic like honestly, i don't mind that slightly golden brown color but if after that you turn into another entire racial ethnicity after like five hours in the sun it just doesn't feel right. or healthy for that matter.

...not trying to be a social justice warrior or anything, but seriously. if you can't identify with someone just because they're a little brown (it's not even permanent) it's just bizarre, especially when you can customize just about everything else about yourself.

ok. wow. first of all
1. that's it. that's the point
i said i don't mind the slightly browner color i just don't like it when i look like another whole ethnicity then who i am because that's how unrealistic the 'tanning' mechanic in this game is. i'm a mix, so i am SLIGHTLY off the pale color scale anyway and it's a color you usually can't find at all in any games. the default pale they have in this is the closest thing to me.
2. idk where to start explaining this to you but when you're biracial like i am it's a really sensitive thing ok. just take my word for that
3. you might not care but other people do. just blatantly putting off people who are bothered by it is a rude thing to do. i can come up with a hundred reasons why i'm bothered by it but judging by the fact that you can't understand this probably means you won't get those either. just saying
4. are you serious
being able to customize what you're wearing, your house, your hair and eye color and very, very slimly your facial features are all pretty much basic. that's not as much as this sims and it's kind of strange to equalize that to being able to customize your skin color. it's not as big of a deal and it's not as big of an expression of who you are. i'll assure you that even though my character's hair is pink and her eyes are blue while mine are red/brown/black for both i still feel like her to some level.

on a last note, don't compare yourself to a social justice warrior when you're literally telling people that it's not being nice to other racial minorities to not be able to be comfortable playing as a character that's got such a different hue from them that they literally look like another race. thanks

I understand your other points, but I feel as if criticizing the tanning system for being "unrealistic" is a bit unfair in a game whose main purpose isn't to completely accurately reflect real-world mechanics, you know?

ah yeah i see what you mean but what i meant was i didn't want it on myself because it's unrealistic for me. i have tanned before since i go to a lot of tropical areas with my family, but not to that degree.

like it's unfair that some people have to work for it but it's also the only way you can change your skintone if you have to so i don't want it to go away unless it's replaced with something better and more fair to others.

I think it might be more beneficial if tanning was optional, and you had to seek it out yourself instead of taking precautionary measures like carrying parasols or wearing hats. Maybe something like a spa resort at the island where your character could choose to tan outside in the sun if they wanted their skin to appear darker :0

Although the infinitely more preferable option is being able to customize the skin colour at the beginning of the game, of course. But like you mentioned in the first post, it might be difficult to work that smoothly into the conversation with Rover. Hm...

Wow, you have a tan. Congrats on being brown-ish in a video game and tossing a fit over it because you have to be a special snowflake.

Tans have all of nothing to do with what race you are. You're not suddenly hispanic because your character went out in the sun too long. If that's all it takes to make you uncomfortable with your racial identity, you might want to work on that. Ferreal. Because this is a game, and that is a character, and if you can't identify with her because she's blue, black, brown, purple, or pastel pink I really don't know what to tell you.

I'm not saying "don't be pale", I'm saying if that's your preference, that's fine- but you could at least accept that the game mechanic kind of sucks and not take it as a personal attack on your identity.
