Issue 189, the one with Star Fox: Assault on the cover. I bought that at newsstands... but the first one I got by mail was the next one, with Killer7 on the cover.

I don't remember my first one exactly, because my dad bought them for me, but I know it was around 97 or 98... I looked at covers on that site, and the first I recognize was Jan 98... so I'm thinking that was it. I know the first one I bought was March 01 w/ Pokemon Stadium 2 featured. My first subscription paid for by myself started in July 02 (after I bought the June 02 issue) and lasted until the Sept. 07 issue, in which I realized NP was a piece of trash and didn't subscribe. I missed a handful of issues in between subscriptions over the 5 yr span when deciding whether to renew or not and waiting for a deal.
