I've heard of a glitch causing DIYs to disappear at random I'm not sure if there's any sequence of events that make this more likely to happen... I'm sorry it affected your mermaid DIY!

That is so kind of you to offer! It just reappeared! I think the glitch might be associated with the phantom villager thinking bubbles, but I can't confirm.

I'm curious as to why this happens. And with the thing about Pascal not giving out DIYs you've crafted, or mermaid items you've obtained through trades/selling/gifting, this is kind of worrisome.

I guess it's a bug that was overlooked before they made diving a thing I hope they fix this because it would be slightly devastating to not be able to collect all the DIYs...

Yeah. I don't know how much it helps, but I tagged Nintendo of America, Nintendo of Japan, and the official Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Twitter explaining what's going on.

This is what worries me as well, I'd be devastated if I lost a learned DIY especially if it's an exclusive one

Hm have you tried sorting the recipes by name/alphabetical order? I have almost all of the recipes and there's so many that it's easy to miss a particular one because of the sheer amount rather than them being actually gone. Sorting them by name makes it easier to find the one(s) you're after.

Just fyi I'm not doubting the issue existing because I've seen many people complain about it... but for me this has always worked when a recipe seems to have disappeared. Maybe I've just been lucky.

god will nintendo pls fix this glitch. i don't care about roof scorpions or villager bubbles but so many of us have spent a long time collecting these buggers and i dont wanna lose them randomly. i'm glad yours came back!
