My Camper didn't move in, someone else did?

I was on day two trying to move Grizzly into my town. On Day Three, I logged on and someone else had moved into the plot I had waiting for Grizzly. Did I do something wrong?

If you are inviting villagers with an amiibo, you don't need an empty plot to move them in.
The plot stays open for 1 day before someone random moves in most of the time. The plot can stay open for two or more days, but those are exceptions and the requirements to do something like that is not worth it.
