I am happy to live in a nation with so many rights such as free speech and the right to bear arms. However, I do not know how many of you have ever truly felt discrimination. It hurts. It feels like they are attacking the very core of your being. Lately there has even been debate in our government to deny me a right I need to be happy in the end. Even after knowing this for so many years it never gets any easier to say because I never know who will hate me for it, but I am gay.

Some members of our government even want an amendment to the constitution to deny me the right to marry, and receive all the rights of a married couple simply because they don't see how it could be natural. I have never been attracted to a woman in my life, and I have tried real hard. I cannot change the fact that I am attracted to guys anymore than any of you can choose who to be attracted to. Can someone tell me why I would not be allowed to visit the guy I love if he is sick and dying in the hospital?

It is hard for me to tell anyone that I am gay, but so far I have been pretty lucky. My parents are fine with it and actually found out from my sister before I could tell them, don't worry she made sure they had no problems with it first. My siblings were both fine, and most friends are fine with it too. But not all. And those confrontations hurt more that the nasty cut that formed the scar on my leg.

I feel the need to vote for Obama, because the majority of the Republicans just don't get it. They have no reason to oppose it other than religion and what ever happened to keeping religion out of the government? All studies go towards showing that being homosexual is natural. No it is not entirely genetic, current thought is that is is a combination of genetics, and prenatal hormones. Either way I know first hand that I had no control of this. If I did I wouldn't be gay because I want children of my own, but I had no control of this.

I also wanted to add that the word gay is not a synonym for stupid. I hear that a lot and you never know if you cause someone pain for saying stuff like that. I know it isn't even meant as an attack at this point but it is still upsetting. Saying stuff likes "that's so gay" is just ignorant. If you read this far, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Most problems come from government and this is no different. Marriage used to be between the private institution and the couple. Government should not get in the middle of any marriage. This is a win-win for both sides.

Also, Obama and McCain are the same on this issue every issue. Vote 3rd party like me.

They have no reason to oppose

Not true. They believe it would rewrite the definition of marriage which is a legitimate concern. But I argue that governments have no place in defining marriage. Both sides are wrong, but both can be happy if they chose to get the government out of the way.

Its awesome that your family was fine with it, but it sucks that not all of your friends were... and yeah, It really annoys me when people call stuff gay all the time.

I give you credit for coming out with it. I know a lot of people would hide it, especially somewhere like an online forum where it would be so easy to hide.

I know how hard it can be. No, I'm not gay, but my cousin is. When he first told his dad, his dad wanted to kick him out of his house, (No, he isn't extremely cruel, I guess it just came as such a shock that he paniced. My uncle [His dad] is actually a great guy, and is now fine with it, and even is his biggest "supporter") so for a few days he lived with me while his family, and mostly his dad, calmed down after the big break. For a while it was a little odd to be around my cousin, but he, like most gays I assume, isn't anything like the stereotypical gay. He's like a normal person, just with a different attraction.

As for my opinion on gay marriage, I say, why not? Gay people are really not that much different from "straight" people. And, like it's been said above, marriage, between any two people, is a 90% religious process, so why should the government be allowed to step in and say no?

For the whole "rewriting the definition of marriage" problem, so what? It really wouldn't be that big of a deal, considering how much good it will do. I believe that once the government "accepts" gay people/marriage, it could (And probably would) be more accepted amongst the general public.

And yes, it annoys me when people use "gay" as an insult.

I know! it's so annoying. It's like they don't even know what the words means!

It's weird cause the word "gay" use to mean "happy".

I wonder when they really changed the definition...
