Is there anyway of dictating were a villagers home could go?,i have seen on few peoples maps villagers houses all close together on a certain side of there maps that looks to me like they somehow planned it out like that other than it being a random villager move.

I think covering your town with paths gives villagers a nudge where to go to. (Source: "[NL Update Report] And for one last note, when selling new plots of land, Tom Nook is going to try to avoid suggesting plots with custom designs if possible. I have a message here from him! "I'm sorry for destroying the paths you worked so hard to lay down. But if there happens to be nowhere else to choose, I hope you'll forgive me!"") I suggest putting paths and planning them asap if you don't want unwanted lot placements!

Also putting PWPs to places you DON'T want them to move prevents them from going there either.
For SUPER ultramega unified houses (like literally on a straight line) it's an indication that it is hacked (or just years of rotating villagers! Yikes!)

Also, if a villager has their house being built in an inconvenient spot you can plot reset to get them to move to a somewhat better location. :p

To add, you can only do this by using a throwaway alt-character. If you do it as mayor, it'll be final. So be careful with it!

What I did was fill every possible 3x3 spots with paths except the spot where I want the villager house to go. I still did plot resetting to make sure. It's very tedious to do at first but very much worth it in the end once you see them properly lined up :)

It's a really tedious job if you're really particular where you want them. If you don't mind where they plot so much as they don't plot somewhere inconvenient, it should be a lot easier to manage.

Pick a god and pray.

You can make them line up with even spaces without hacking :) paths & pwps will do the job like the others said, but sometimes it might not work if you reach the acre limit thingo

That limit is so confusing though. In one spot of my town I have like four houses in what 'seems' like they're all in the same acre.

Yeah I never understood the acre thing :( I just make some extra empty spots (like 5x3 or w/e instead of 3x3) when I tile
