Moving to a new town

Query:
If I moved my second character out to create a new town, would I be able to look at the 4 available maps and then quit and retry if I didn't like one of them, or would I then loose my character? I could test it out when my 3rd game card arrives with a newly made character in my first town, but someone must know?

Sorry, long post, really trying to weigh up ideas, some of my dreamies plots looked like good ideas at the time but now they're actually in pretty awkward places it seems.

I'm not sure if you can do the map thing but you should be able to!
I just went and bought a second copy today and all i really did was give myself hybrids and the rest I'm gonna start from scratch. Its refreshing tbh and i got a private beach which is awesome.

The thing is, I do have a second town I use for growing hybrids, cycling and holding villagers etc, so I was going to restart there, but if there's a chance I'll lose my most treasured character attempting to move and choose a map then I'd rather just make her a dopleganger and then catalogue all her belongings, rebuild house the same etc than try to move her and accidentally lose her during a reset. If anyone knows more about this please get in touch. Also, I just ordered a 3rd copy of the game, so I have a fresh card to do this on without getting rid of my other two towns. I think sometimes you need to play the game a while to know what you really want, but then you've made an investment in your town and you don't want to screw that up recreating your town.

When you move a second character to a new town,it's just like any other new town reset once you get your 3ds's set up.You can look at all the maps and quit and retry as many times as you want.

Thank you Nunnafinga, you are a star! I didn't know if it was like transfering data, and if you moved from your first card onto the second, and then reset before saving your character on the second card, you would sort of... Fall into the void -_-" so, do you have any other information about how it works? I know you get to take your belongings, at what point do you disapear off the first card? After saving on the second?

If I remember right,your character is removed from their original cartridge once the transfer to the new cartridge is complete and after the transfer,your character is put on the train with Rover and you go through the new town reset routine as per usual.
